I've watched every Oregon game for the last 7 or 8 years

but please, keep telling me about their offense

Cool story.

Who gives a fukk, Mariota is gonna be a fukking bum at the NFL level. That amount of dikkriding he got this year for his gimmicky team running up the score on trash ass pac-12 teams is annoying.

Q

The offense that a player plays in does not equal his understanding of football, defense, or offensive concepts. It's just the offense he runs. Manziel wasn't a system QB. He was a kid who barely knew his plays and threw the ball up to WRs. There's a clear difference between him and Mariota. If you watched him against OSU he was going to his 2nd and 3rd reads, but they couldn't come back because a limitation of their offense not him lacking as a QB. Their passing schemes were weak sauce, but you could see him cycling for open WRs. You might have a point if Chip was his coach, but Helfrich started forcing him to stay in the pocket more since early last season.

Jameis is the better pocket QB, but that's not a reason to slam Mariota. I'm hoping the NFL motivates Jameis to focus now because he played way sloppier this year than he did last year.

Whether Mariota has a great football understanding of concepts is besides the point. When he had to sit in the pocket, cycle through his reads and make throws, he failed. He bounced passes and missed receivers. Most of Mariota's highilght throws come off of predetermined reads and play action, else he's running. That's not NFL QB'ing. That's college puppetry and as RG3 shows, college puppetry doesn't work in the NFL outside Kelly's specialized system. While Oregon's system might not mean Mariota is unable to play pocket QB, the preponderance of evidence doesn't make an optimistic case. Workouts don't matter. Tape matters. Does Mariota cycle through his reads and hit guys with anticipation on normal rhythm plays? Can he hit guys in stride and in tight windows? Does he ignore the rush and step up into his throws? These are the things which matter. Read option and play action don't.

I honestly don't get whats so special about remembering the play and drawing it. Mooch's sh1t was so basic. He drew a play that was no doubt in everybody's playbook, just had different verbiage.

You've been salty on Jameis for a minute.

Hearing NFL players on NFL radio fawn over Winston's quick on his feet understanding of passing concepts, down to the point where he immediately spoke on the difference in terminology, IS a big deal to NFL coaches.

Congrats....you being a Coli user doesn't think its a big deal...but let's thank god that it is to actual NFL teams and coaches who would rather spend time creating game plans for a young qb than spending time "teaching" a young qb the basics.

It's easier on coaches dumb ass...which is why they have whiteboard sessions during interviews like Mooch showed. But here you are being a hateful dumb ass instead of staying in your ignorant non knowing shyt about football ass lane.

Put down the hate Pom poms and accept the fact that this kid knows his shyt.

You're so emotional. Jameis G Sanford will be a bust and no doubt catch a rape charge.

Any qb in a pro style system can do what he did. Hell, Blake Simms probably coulda did that sh1t. Not impressed. :beli:

Nothing emotional. Just an astute observation on nonsensical hating and downplaying.

Does Mariota cycle through his reads and hit guys with anticipation on normal rhythm plays? - Yes.
Can he hit guys in stride and in tight windows? - Yes.
Does he ignore the rush and step up into his throws? - Yes.

I can assure you I know enough about football and QB'ing to know the kid is proficient. I've seen all 3 of those consistently since last season like I said. You throw RG3 under the bus, but honestly his failures in the NFL are on the Shanahan's not Bob. If Shanahan had taken his lumps like the Colts did with luck then RG3 would be further ahead than he is now. Mariota's not Peyton coming out of college, but to say it's all gimmick is bullshyt. You're claiming he failed based on playing in championship games. That's ridiculous.
