The Quran says we were divided into nations and tribes so that we may learn from each other. That's all. So whatever you're talking about is NOT from the Quran, and thus not Islam. Simple and plain.

Well it's harmful when it starts affecting the government.
Religion and State are supposed to be separate but that
clearly isn't the case when peoples beliefs are affecting policy
IE Gay Marriage, Science Courses being taught in classes etc.

The links were just examples but there are definitely people who are actively pushing
for their beliefs to manifest in policy, in the case of "Gay Marriage" it has
happened.
And to someone in the LGBT community those effects are definitely "Tangible".
