2x...and defending
I agree with HBO part. They run their own narrative that isn't based in reality. I don't disagree with that. It has always been an HBO champion is thought of better than another networks champion and they continued it last night by saying that Kovalev is the consensus LH champion when that isn't true. The reality is Stevenson and Kovalev both deserve spotlight at the top and the only way to differentiate is to fight each other (however a Ward-Kovalev fight does go along way in building perception on who we may think is the best). It also lends into creating a public narrative of promotion, love or hate HBO it works. Now it isn't always an accurate representation, but benefits the name brand of a fighter. I always argue an HBO push would do wonders for Wilder's name brand, who IMO should be a bigger star.Pretty much sums up this whole argument. The reality to YOU.
The reality and fact is they both ducked at one point yet you dudes only put the blame on Stevenson because boxing fans love to pick and choose when convenient.
Stevenson bounced to get more money. Duck on Stevenson part.
kkkov ask for purse bid Stevenson is down and kkkov leaves the bid with at a point where he had no ties w hbo. Duck on Stevenson part
dat hbo narrative
And it's starting to get real funny to me how this narrative always benefits a certain type of fighter
And puts another certain type of fighter in a bad light
edit let me be clear not saying you in particular but the hbo narrative.
My point is really that there is so much blame to go around that the narrative of Kovalev ducking isn't accurate. Stevenson had an opportunity to make the fight, he didnt. The caveat is he did take a better promotional deal, I get that. Same goes to Kovalev, he has had opportunity to buck the narrative and force a fight, but he hasnt, he has stayed behind what his promoters wanted to do. I put biggest blame towards HBO and Main Events. Main Events is not budging at all and IMO Duva has been the biggest block of all because she wants to control the fight and she knows PBC will outbid here and take her money for being lead promoter. HBO has played it cool in public, but they haven't done anything to help either and I am sure are behind the scenes blocking it unless it appears on HBO.
This is the major reason I was for PBC. I hate the promoter and network battle lines. I want PBC to be a success because they had enough networks lined up to showcase all fighters. In fact that is why I hate the "duck" calling of fighters. I think in 90+% of cases fighters never duck each other, I think the biggest factor is financial, promotional, and network issues, and the best thing was to find a way to eliminate it...and the fighters were behind Haymon.
