If you really want to learn programming these days, learn ruby, python or the good parts of javascript. I think they mentioned Java / .net just cause they're in demand in legacy IT applications

I don't think this "learn to code" advice is relevant for the OP frankly. Unless he has an inclination towards it and can figure it out

OP do you have access to a computer at home? Do you want to try to learn to code?

If you can learn one language you can learn them all.

Java is the hardest of all the languages though, so If you know Java the rest will seem easy + you don't get into bad habits.

BTW: Mike Bloomberg would tell you to become a plumber.

Just anaylze your situation, you have options and just pick whatever suits you best

i would say go focus on getting a 4 year degree by going to community college and then transferring to a 4 year

as for a major, just find something that interests you, talk to a counselor, i think that is most important

once you get your 4 year a lot of things open up that werent there before

for online classes, you can check out https://www.coursera.org/ https://www.edx.org/ imo these are good places for practice and to see what you enjoy, they dont replace actually registering for school and getting a degree tho

The I in Team
Dog for the love of God learn a trade. My list would go:

Electrical
Plumbing
Hvac
Carpentry

You can always take classes on the side and earn an associates. That's pretty much all you need breh. Trust me on this, as someone with high degrees and such learning a trade is a good thing in this world

:leon: is this lesson 1?

pretty sure i could learn this

yes

to be honest though I'm kinda conflicted breh I don't want to give you the wrong advice and make you feel like if you can write some javascript you're set

learning to program is good and all but I don't know what's good for *you*. Definitely my initial advice to do both the community college degree and the trade apprenticeship is what I'd go with.

where do you learn this?
This will help you get started.

Your options are really limited without at least a GED...get to community college and get your associates in ANYTHING over that.

@yo moms
I agree with this... I say learn plumbing or hvac.

But if your not a labor type of person.... you can't drive trucks.. be a truck driver.

Or if that sh1t doesn't appeal then just go to community college. u can get in without a degree.. They have excellent computer science programs that will break sh1t down on an elementary level and also give you hands on experience. The programs don't take too long if ur just getting a cert.

software development is one of those things that if you focus you can learn it.. if it clicks in ur head then ur pretty much set up for life as long as you keep updating ur skills.

OR if all that sh1t isn't an option or you fail... get CNA.. or phlebotomy or medical billing training.

I'm saying though. What planet is he living on?

Java is easy as hell to learn and to use. No pointers, automatic garbage collection, pre-constructed data structures, built in graphics library and so on.

The world runs on C and C++.

And you expect him, with the information we were given about him, to learn C and C++? :aicmon:

Why not learn Java.... and take advantage of the fact that it's hot right now.
