Every region on this planet has its urbanised cities and its rural parts. Why would africa be any different? I’ve never disputed that people lived rurally in west Africa. This all started from you claiming west Africans were hunter gatherers ( which you still haven’t proved by the way :pachaha:)

we’ve already mentioned empires like the Ashanti kingdom, nok culture, Tichitt walata which had little to no foreign influence.

But here is the thing though, even if there was foreign influence, so what ? U think there is no foreign influence in European civilisation ?

Do you know that the Latin writing script we use is originally derived from the Egyptian hieroglyphs? The numeral system we use is of indo-Arabic origin and replaced the Roman numerals? The use of paper money and concept of currency is from ancient China and the Middle East. The cultivation techniques they learned from African slaves in the new world ? I could go on breh.

So many things that jokers like you assume to be of European origin. Then you turn around and call these things “European” :mjlol:I bet you don’t hold that foreign influence over cacs though. Nah you probably think they’re too superior to have had any foreign influence :wow:

And I’m African and West Indian and proud of my DOS heritage as well. Many of those sold into slavery were high ranking officials, chiefs, governors etc that were captured by rival tribes so being a DOS does not mean your African lineage is one of bushmen :unimpressed:

you’re too stupid for your own good breh :wow:
Majority of those sold into slavery were

1. captured by raiders, that built slave trading into a valuable industry. But even they had enough sense to not go after leadership, they went after children and bushmen that weren't under the rule/protection of more powerful groups. Such as the Abam raids conducted on the Nri/Ndi-Igbo by the Arochukwu.

2. Bushmen that were conquered by more powerful groups such as the Oyo and sold into slavery. So yea some were leaders... leaders of bushmen.

3. People found guilty of a crime by crooked religious figures then sold to slave traders under the guise of them being executed/exiled.

If you really want to learn about the history and legacy of Slavery in West Africa, the first book I posted goes into detail.

the irony is you guys are latching on to the slave traders as your ancestors, and denying the groups that were actually overwhelmingly sold into slavery.

How do you think they got so many slaves? The ruling classes of various regions sold their more vulnerable people into slavery in exchange for tools to aquire more power.

30% of slaves came from the bight of Biafra and Benin which were located in the coastal bush. 50% came from central Africa. But you want to latch on to West Saharan Muslims.

Almost all the slaves in the USA were prisoners of war that came as a result of trade expansionist aspirations or the spread of Islam in Sahelian and Forest Belt states.

In Senegambia there was wide spread warfare between the Mandingos, Fulani and Wolof over territory. In Sierra Leone there was widespread warfare among Temne, Mende and other groups over territory. In Ghana the Asante defeated the Dagomba in warfare and the forced the Dagomba to pay tribute in the form of gold. The Dagomba could not always meet the demand for gold, so the Asante allowed them to pay in either gold or slaves. The Dagomba then engaged in wide spread warfare from Central Ghana through Upper Volta which netted a large number of people that were sold into slavery. In Kongo the Portuguese were able to under the Manikongo by using the Jaga people and local Kongo chiefs to engage in war. In Cameroon the Fulani engaged in Jihads that ended up causing many Tikar/Bamileke/Bamoun people to end up in slavery. That is how most African Americans ended up in slavery, because you are clearly unaware of the fact that most African American ancestors are not from Nigeria.

Almost all Nigerian slaves were taken to the Caribbean and South America, which is why they have large Yoruba influence in places like Brazil and Cuba in their music, religion, etc.. As opposed to the USA where there is very little Nigerian influence, but a vast amount of Mande influence in stuff like the Blues, Rice and Islam. So you might want to do yourself a favor and learn about the history of slavery in West Africa before you go around advising other people to learn about that history.

I already know this. I’m saying that “bushmen” do not account for all of the slaves that were sold off. Most continental Africans descend from poorer Africans. The poor have always been more numerous than the powerful everywhere in the world, so what ? Nikkas aren’t allowed to celebrate African history unless we provide DNA results tracing to tribal chiefs ? :mjlol:

why are acting like there weren’t powerful kingdoms along the coast like the Benin and Akan kingdoms :gucci:

African Americans have a strong sahelian component in their DNA from slavery that is documented breh. More so than other DOS. Sahelian Africans were definitely sold into slavery as well.

:whoa:There is definitely a lot of coastal west African DNA in AA’s though breh. We can’t dispute that. But AA’s do definitely have the largest amount of sahelian ancestry compared to other DOS.

Sahelian culture is more prominent in AA’s because the slave owners found the culture more tolerable than the coastal one and as a result, sahelian customs and traditions were allowed to thrive while the coastal ones were repressed. The coastal west African slaves would have then obviously adopted the sahelian customs as well because of this.

I know about the Benin and Akan kingdoms, my family is from Igbo-Ukwu, the Capital of the Kingdom of Nri.
The Benin Kingdom were considered our neighbors and culturally we had influence of on each other to the point historians debate who influenced who more.

But when we say they were our neighbors that wasn't in the same sense of the USA and Canada are neighbors, there was plenty of space between the two of us.

They were just the neighboring civilization that was on the same developmental tier as the Nri, between both kingdoms were plenty of lower level groups that didn't answer to or interact with either.

Those where usually bushmen. Even when the kingdom of Nri collapsed and lost power, large portions my region devolved back into being bushmen in the wake of the Arochukwu.

Majority of West Africa was bushmen when the Europeans arrived, I don't know why this is a offensive thing to believe, both the African and European accounts state this. If they weren't bushmen then they were subjects of Islamic rulership, or they were recently removed from Islamic control.

I never said zero West African slaves were descended from Saharans, and all slaves were bushmen. but majority were bushmen. The bight of Biafra was the most densely populated region of West Africa, in Biafra most of us were bushmen. Bight of Benin also had a large population of bushmen. Central Africa had an abundance of bushmen. People in the bush were the easiest targets for slavery.

The areas that produced 80% of the transatlantic slave trade were all dominated by bushmen. So I don't get why you guys are upset at the idea of being descended from bushmen versus being descended from a Saharans when the former is much more likely for the average descendent of Slavery.

Just for clarity here, can you define exactly what a bushman is to you ?

West Africa had great empires and your grandfather isn’t old enough to have experienced them ...

I will ignore this
yall, need to let him be brehs.

@ignorethis I salute you for being honest with yourself. If you feel, your ancestors just bushmen, I salute you for still moving on with your life. :salute:
Just don't project your ancestors on other west african ethnic groups that's all.

Indigenous people originating from a small village in the bush (not all bushmen are from the bush though, the dense forest of the Bush just makes easier for them to be secluded from larger more advance civilizations) , little to no interactions outside of violence with any people not from their village.

Can be farmers but are also hunters, and yes even gatherers.

Can't read or write because formal education isn't an established concept where they are from. Reading and writing might not even be established concepts.

If you're from a village that engages in any form of a trade with outsiders, I don't consider them bushmen, but others still do based on the other ways they are stunted developmentally.

Igbos had civilization before the Europeans, it involved human sacrifice and slavery but it was a civilization.

Am I glad that we left that form of civilization? Yes, most Igbos are. It's what allowed us to advance and compete in modern day Africa, other group didn't advance and because of that they have no power in modern Africa.
:dwillhuh:
but Igbos don't have power in modern day Nigeria, let alone African. The same people that were more organized and had powerful Kingdoms in the Nigeria area before colonialism (Hausa-Fulani) are the same ones running Nigeria right now. Ant they weren't hunter gatherer.
yall are still taking Ls now like you did back then. Tea sipping zaddy didn't save you.

Breh if that is your definition of bushmen then you are one hundred percent wrong in saying most west africans lived like that. I could understand if your just said rural but straight up isolated people living in the forests? :comeon: That's how the the pygmies live.

And no, there were no hunter gatherers. I've already asked you for proof and you ducked it.

Most of west africans at some point or another would have been the subjects of other kingdoms. I don't think you understand the land mass some of these west african empires covered.

Honestly, you're not as knowledgable on african history as you think you are so lets just agree to disagree and leave it there bushman lol.

:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:
lol go to Lagos and ask the Yorubas and Hausas who controls the economy.
Who has the most prosperous region in Nigeria?
Who has the highest literacy rate and standard of living?

When people talk about Nigeria being a shythole they're not talking about the South, and especially not Igboland.
They're talking about the North, the same people that are descendants of "mighty African empires".
Their trademarks are Illiteracy, substance abuse, and Sharia Law.

That's what makes it funny, ya'll have this high image of the Hausa-Fulani, that everybody in Nigeria knows isn't true.
It's crazy northerners have a fan club overseas:russ:

Okay, I'm good on talking about West Africa with people that have never stepped foot inside of it, I'll post some pictures when I go back in December.
