People who bomb places in the name of ISIS...they are "crazy"
But they know exactly what they're doing, they simply believe in their cause so strongly that they believe that the ends justify the means
Some people empathize with the idea but not the actions of ISIS. Some people call them insane psychopaths and some people even try to rationalize the terrorist acts.
The Joker is a psychopath who happens to be highly intelligent and highly capable of causing mass destruction, murder, and mayhem all in the name of his "beliefs"
His beliefs are "the joke"
It's funny that Batman could stop him in ONE NIGHT but chooses not to because of a "code" and that same code keeps him from truly fixing the city. It's funny that he killed a Robin and Batman despite even admitting that he wanted to kill Joker, couldn't do it because it would violate everything he stands for and make him no better than The Joker.

Hear me out, I'm not on his side but I understand where he's coming from. The biggest reason why Batiatus turned into an evil scheming b*stard is because he wanted to be more than a master of a gladiator school and everyone either told him to stay in his place or pissed on him (and that also happens to him literally and violently) 
The prequel series shows he tried to go about his ambitions the honest way but even his pops tells him his ambitions ain't shyt and to maintain the family legacy. He only has his wife in his corner and with all the psycho Roman elites they run into it's no wonder why they do some vile shyt to get that come up.

Every villain seems reasonable in their own quest. If you can commit to it I have no issue with it.
That said, some may call Griffith a villain, I disagree. He's a successful Macbeth, a true war hero.
