The game gear is another black sheep of the sega lineup that shouldge been more successful. It had a great library, made gameboy look like a joke hardware wise. It even had a working TV tuner at one point. The Nomad wasnt so bad either.

I cant evrn imagine what the portable gaming market would be today is Sega if they beat Game Boy and had success to fall back on there. They wouldve been big.
Sega was better at everything but actually having good marketing and depth of games. shyt is tragic when you think about it.

Ima go ahead and add the Windows mobile phone to the mix.

Microsoft really tried hard to compete with those phones, and truthfully I thought the Windows 8 style interface was pretty cool. But they got greedy with that trash "Microsoft store" that no 3rd party supported or was even courted to support. Mostly first party Microsoft "games" apps and software no one used. Didnt even have a Snapchat app or fukking Subway Surfers at the height of that popularity.

Microsoft has a strange history of throwing their hats in rings and picking and choosing when theyre gonna fully back something or just dip their toes in see how it does and cash out.

Microsoft abandanoned Zune, Windows phones, Windows PDAs and Kinect pretty quick, but they stuck with Xbox and the Surface no matter how much it cost.
I used to work for their store. They fired me for avoiding selling those wackarnold phones. I could sell the hell out of the Xbox and Surface.

Sega was the innovators of the industry. They just never learned that it doesnt pay in that particular industry to be the innovators. All you are doing is giving someone else with more money the blueprint on how to do what you did. Thats why Apple has been all about optimization vs innovation. They wont create the tech and processes that change the game, theyll just copy and make it a little bit more efficient and more polished.
