Bottom-Tier Tomozaki-Kun Volume 2

It's nice to see that Izumi considers Tomozaki her friend. While it might not mean much for most it a nice thing to see. Tho the 4 person shopping trip put more pressure on Tomozaki then he needed to. While he does bond with Izumi more so he fails to make the suggestion task. She makes a great point he needs to worry less about his suggestions being bad. While quality is important being persuasive is just as important as well. Convincing people can make the difference in the world. Granted making bad suggestions can make future ones less persuasive so its a delicate balance like Aoi mentioned.

We seeing that for class president we have Aoi and Mimimi competing against each other. Aoi suggests Tomozaki to help be Mimimi's manager. With the reason he has everything to lose if he was Aoi's s manager, but the opposite if he was Mimimi's manager. Good on Tomozaki to still see he could be of help to Mimimi and convinces Mimimi he can be of help. The bond between these two grows. Tho they get outmatched by Aoi who basically checkmated them before they could have their speech. Tomozaki uses a surprise gimmick to get the crowd fonded by Mimimi's personality. Obviously Aoi won, but Mimimi put a good effort. Tomozaki has a great quote that failure is the foundation of success meaning learnign from your mistakes basically.

The rest of the volume is a focus on Mimimi, who is even more dedicated to beating Aoi. But the one thing Aoi won't be beaten is effort, so this seems like a lost cause. Fuka brought a great question in asking what is Aoi's motivation? Clearly Aoi is Mimimi's motivation, but what is the reason Aoi puts in the effort she does. The concern is now Mimimi is trying to out effort Aoi, but here lies another issue. Part of Aoi's out effort thing is that her effort is extremely efficient. Mimimi putting an inefficient amount of extra work is not much help at all. Tomozaki's point that as long as you are improving that is the big key, but that point doesn't reach Mimimi and ends up quitting the track team.

Aoi brings up the point that she was surprised winning isn't the most important thing to Tomozaki. This def will be a difference between these two that will be brought upon later. Tomozaki realizes that Tama-chan is so important to Mimimi so giving her the assist to snap Mimimi out of it was the goal. While it was understandable to get Mimimi's frustrations. Aoi was her idol and whom she wanted to be. The problem is she was always topping Mimimi. At some point she would get frustrated and blame Aoi. Which obviously isn't fair since it isn't Aoi's fault. Which causes Mimimi to think she isn't special. Tama calling Mimimi her hero was a big lift for Mimimi as it told her that while Aoi is her inspiration, she is Tama-chan's inspiration. Mimimi is able to get back on the right track.

Finishing the volume Tomozaki and Izumi giving Nakamara his birthday gifts and Izumi loved seeing 2 of her friends getting closer. Unfortunately Aoi's 3 min talk task to Nakamara was a lil much for Tomozaki to handle. Which leads him to ask if Aoi and Mizusawa are dating. :skip: Well Aoi does tease him a bit and have his fun. Tomozaki does notice he growth in terms of being a "normie", but still note the disconnect between his new friends so he still has a while to go.

Bottom Tier Tomozaki-Kun Volume 3

Aoi puts a goal for Tomozaki to date Fuka by the end of the summer. He def needs a practice date, but she is def like the complete opposite of Fuka :pachaha:. Also she puts on him to find a part time which is something he needs since every high schooler needs to find one sooner or later. Tomozaki gets an invite from Aoi, Mimimi and Mizusawa to a sleepover BBQ to get Yuzu and Shuuji together. The 3 of them coming over Tomozaki's house gave her a surprising reaction considering who her brother used to be.

Tomozaki has his first date with Fuka, which she highlights that he is both easy and difficult to talk to. Positive and negative feedback the issue is how to interpret which Aoi gives her feedback. Aoi recommends Tomozaki to apply for a part time job at a Karoke place where Mizusawa works at. Leave it to her to give him a place where he can work, but also start to make some guy friends which he desperately needs. Actually it's cool to the friendship with Mizusawa playing out. While Tomozaki looks up to him and takes his example, you can tell Mizusawa has a genuine respect for Tomozaki. He meets one of the juniors at his new job whos name is Tsugumi. Who is lazy, but def has feelings for Mizusawa.

You def see early on before they get to the BBQ site that Mimimi like Yuzu def have built a friendship with Tomozaki, which is great to see. The big issue with getting Yuzu and Shuuji together was that he still had leftover feelings for Shimano-senpai. The plan ended up using Takei's unique innocent to break to Shuuji how disloyal Shimano-Senpai is. And the plan went very well. One thing I do like between Tomozaki and Mizusawa's friendship was that Tomozaki is too innocent to understand Mizusawa's love troubles because he sort of closed off his heart basically.

During the test courage unsurprisingly Yuzu and Shuuji ended up going together. Mizusawa and Mimimi. And Aoi and Tomozaki ended up in a pair as well. Tomozaki was able to to tease Shuuji but well 2 of them just ended up being dikk jokes which aint the issue. Aoi tried to test Tomozaki how he could show himself to be more manly especially given Fuka's personality and that ended up with the two of teasing the other to get the better of the other. Unsuprisingly Aoi won in that battle.

Tomozaki and Aoi having a meeting near midnight to discuss somethings going forward, but with Mizusawa being around Tomozaki ends up oddly hiding and he talks with Aoi. He mentions how the other people in the group are much more pure and where their emotions on their sleeves. Meanwhile him and Aoi locked their hearts. He puts his heart out for the first for Aoi and she continues to hide behind her numerous masks as noted by Tomozaki. Really showing that she is someone who constantly wants to win and be in control. And in all honestly she most likely won't let anyone see her true self. Tomozaki with the weird decision to come out in the opinion and apologize :skip: :mjlol:

Next we had the Tomozaki had his 2nd date with Fuka and while Aoi wanted him to express his feelings to Fuka after the date. Not surprisgly that puts Tomozaki in an awkward position cause expressing your feelings is much more personal then improving yourself. Tomozaki tries to be more of his genuine self on his 2nd date with Fuka and honestly it goes even well for him. Since Fuka felt he was easier talking to in this date and the fact it went so well lead him to express his feelings since it would be unfair for Fuka to put herself out there and not for him to do the same. This does lead to a falling out with Aoi and Tomozaki since Aoi's mindset of rational thinking can't see the point Tomozaki was making about being true to yourself.

After the falling out Tomozaki fall back into his bad habits. His sister lectures himself from a disappointed pov because she thought her brother was finally making the steps to improving herself. Her noticing that a girl, Fuka in this case wanted to invite her two days ago and he never got back to her. Ironic the falling out with Aoi happened because Tomozaki mentioned he wanted to be true to himself and Aoi wouldn't lusten. And here we have Fuka putting herself out their and Tomozaki ignores her. They hang out for basically a 3rd date and Tomozaki is looking down on himself since it seems all the hard work he put has gone away. But Fuka's word reached out to Tomozaki mentioning that the fact he was able to imrpove himself was beyond impressive. To say that motivates her was a touching moment for Tomozaki since his hard work inspiried her to be more confident in herself slightly.

Her words of "If someone is special to you don't let them go." It hit home because Aoi is clearly an important person in his life and losing that friendship connection would be a bad move on his part. But he still wanted to be true to himself, but as long as it doesn't conflict with him being true to himself. The big convincing moment that didn't give Aoi a rebuttle was that he claimed that he enjoys life more then her and that is something she is lacking. She excels in everything she does, but everything is a task for her thus there are very few times you can tell she is enjoying herself. Which is true since she hides behind a persona she made to hide behind. Curious how their dynamic changes going forward.

Started reading through days with my stepsister.

Through volume 1 it more of a slow burn and actually does a good job at giving a more grounded approach in having a step sibling. And how the actual adjustment into becoming one really is. One really nice thing about this is that the characters feel more grounded and real since they don't just act like a bunch of troupes.

Yuuta's dad Tachi ends up marrying Akiko, which results in Saki being his new stepsister. But deadass its one thing for Saki not being comfortable taking pictures, but why give Tachi the picture of her in elementary school :deadrose:. It's nice to see how both of the new parents try to make the extra push when moving in. Tachi with cleaning up at the best of his abilities and Akiko with trying to cook and having the new family be together more. We also see that Yuuta works at the library part time where he is often working with Shiori, whom is a college student. Shiroi is a tease to Yuuta and feels more reminsince of a guys friendship then you would expect. Also we have his best friend Maru who seems like a chill dude :ehh:. You can def see he really looks out for Yuuta.

Maru does warn Yuuta regarding Saki with the rumors of her being a delinquent and selling her body. Obviously given that she is Yuuta's stepsister now that def is gonna raise alarms. No surprise Yuuta would reach a misunderstanding with Saki wanting a good part time job after hearing those rumors, but them coming into agreement of helping each other. Yuuta helps Saki find the proper part time jon and Saki helps with cooking. Saki mentions she wants to be independent and how she uses the deliquent persona as an armor is interesting. I do give her credit for wanting to be independent, but she may be going about it in the wrong way.

Yuuta's research for the job doesn't really going anywhere. Maru raises a BIG point that it isn't going to be that easy. While Shiori raises the point that it isn't bad to rely on others. Big CEOS rely on their employees. In reality in this modern world you are never going to be 100% independent. Which raises the question why does Saki want to be independent so badly?

When Yuuta mention Shiroi it raises a point that he wasn't expecting from Saki. She had the impression that Yuuta hated women, which is only true since only his true issues stemmed from his mom. Her mentioning that she thought they were similar makes me wonder if there is some issue that Saki had with her father? And to add the point it would be easier for her if Yuuta and his dad weren't such genuinely good people where she could ignore depending on them. That adds even more question marks about her father.

Despite this Saki still feels like a genuine person as well. On one day leading up to school Saki wasn't paying attention and almost got run over by a car due to have earphones in her ear. We end up learning that it isn't music but rather English lessons. As she has a point that learning english can definetly improve her prospects of being independent, but obviously she needs to watch for her safetey.

Later that afternoon we get our first introduction to Mayya as when Yuuta comes out of the shower he sess Saki and her on the couch. Mayya is one of the few close friends Saki is, but she gets a laugh out of teasing Yuuta calling him older brother. More so in the sense to tease Saki who clearly isn't the most emotional person out there. But her friendship despite the teasing is nice and is someone who looks out for Saki. No surprise that Saki asks for Yuuta's contact info because she felt more of the teasing then Yuuta did.

Over the course of breakfast the next morning there came a discussion of laundry duties. An unaware point from Yuuta's pov on how women handle laundry differently then me. For most men its throw the clothes into the washer then the dryer then fold the luandry. For women its a much more delicate process that he wasn't familiar with. Tho it is sweet on Saki's end to realize she might have been rude during that discussion and she has been one to be pretty stereotypical of gender roles. Yuuta by no surprise thinking of not much of it and it was important that she was capable of learning from it. Saki does feel Yuuta knows her too well in a short amount of time. This could be an indication she isn't used to opening up to others.

Before work Saki catches Yuuta taking a peak into her room where her panties were drying. She ends up talking to him about if he was peaking. As a girl she obviously isn't comfortable with a boy looking at it, but expecting Yuuta to act like a typical brother would be pretty damn extreme. Good to see characters acting more grounded in this situation and not acting like a bunch of anime troupes. She def put Yuuta's thoughts of her being able to evaluate the situation on hand and proceed accordingly, but given that she even teased him shows that their relationship as siblings feels more and more genuine.

On the next night Saki suggested selling her body to Yuuta since Yuuta was a good guy and that would solve her issue. But Yuuta mentions he HATES people who do stuff that would cause others suffers. But his Dad and Akiko wouldn't like this. Not to mention this would go everything that Saki said she stand for. By selling her body to Yuuta it would take her further away from being independent and it would imply the rumors that weren't true would be true in the end.

We learn that regarding Saki's dad that after he lost his business he developed a inferiority complex towards Akiko. He ended up hating her and personally made her life harder despite that she was able to provide for Saki all on her own somehow. From that being the first male family member in her life to now we see her with Yuuta and his dad. It's clear to understand her wantness to be independent like her mom so she doesn't end up in a situation like her. Despite Akiko's success to push through those are fukked up circumstances.

Yuuta actually relates to that in some way. Since his mom cheated on his dad so much in a way that he grew into fearing women. The fact that Akiko found a mam who would genuinely love him and Tachi finding a woman who would support him is very sweet. And as we see in the short time Yuuta and Saki looking out for each in their own way. While Yuuta feels a pure sibling relationship, it is not the case for Saki. She mentions in her diary she doesn't want to call him older brother because she knows she would just end up relying on him. Curious how this proceeds. But also while she is fond of Yuuta she doesn't know if these are feelings that she should feel for her step-brother. After all they weren't strangers too long ago. Curious which side it goes for her.

I’m stuck on Stepsister because I read the fan translation and it was up to either 6 or 7 and the official release just came out. It’s probably going to be a year and a half before it gets caught up. It’s a good series though. Better than My Friends Little Sister Has It In For Me by the same author. For some reason they like writing about sisters.

Bottom Tier Tomozaki-Kun Vol 4

So we start here with Aoi giving Tomozaki a goal of sharing mutual secret with a girl where the secret has to go both ways. Given his progress this should be something that should happen naturally. Prob the biggest step for Tomozaki is that he has entered the guys group of Nakumara, Mizusawa and Takei. This is a pretty big deal for him and it shows the progress that he has made.

The next big event at school is the sports tournament between classes. Takei acting a fool and volunteering and assuming Aoi would volunteer for the girls :mjlol:. No one on the girls side is volunteering and Erika pushes Yuzu to take the role. But her saying she doesn't want to is a big step for her since she would agree to do it via peer pressure. Then Erika just simply pushes Hirabyashi-san to do it. Given that she is a timid girl this doesn't come as a surprise that she would agree so easily. Honestly how Tomozaki and Yuzu's friendship continues to grow is really nice to see. Liike Fuuka, Yuzu seeing Tomozaki's improvement lead to her motivation to improve as well. One big point that Tomozaki mentions is that both him and Aoi having a goal laid and proceed to go about it. But he notices that Aoi just proceeds regardless of her enjoyment while Tomozaki tries find enjoyment in how he proceeds.

The next big goal Aoi gives Tomozaki is to get Erika and her group motivated to compete in the sports festival. The fact that this goal is plan orientated and less action orientated shows that its time for Tomozaki to be able figure out how he can accomplish this goal this time around. But during this time Nakumara due to a fight with his mom skipped school. Instead of waiting out till the situation resolves itself Tomozaki sees Yuzu want to talk to Nakumara into coming back to school. Tomozaki wanting to help Yuzu follow through with what she wants in her heart is consistent with how he wants his goals to be structured. And Aoi can't fight back from this.

Aoi being as textbook efficent as she is turns the irrational problem into a rational solution. Except Yuzu wants to be the one to talk into Nakumara's mom rather then Aoi. So Yuzu finds out that Atagami is the core of the problem with Shuuji playing too much in his moms opinion. Gamers Aoi and Tomozaki take offense it her mom blaming their favorite game. Aoi suggests them showing Atagami and bad test scores aren't correlated. Yuzu once again steps and wants to be involved. Funny enough Yuzu meets the target goal regarding their math scores to show to Shuuji's mom.

The next part of the plan was to ell Shuuji the plan before they talked to his mom. But the day when they were planning to tell his mom Nakumara came back to school. The big underlying point is that Yuzu put her heart out when she mentioned her plan to Nakumara basically won him over. Yuzu putting her heart out there was enough to convince Shuuii to come back to school. If she didn't volunteer to be part of the group to do well on the math scores it obvously wouldn't have the same impact on Nakumara. Following this Yuzu tightens her resolve in wanting to help Hirabyashi-san. By the simply fact she truly wants to help her. Yuzu's growth since the beginning of the series has been fantastic and is the help Tomozaki needs to help convince Erika.

When Aoi and Tomozaki talk about how the plan with Nakumara succeed was due to Tomozaki point of following your heart. The problem is he didn't convince Aoi fully. Mainly he tried to reason with her on her own terms. Which explicitly meant he was using rational logic to prove his point. Which doesn't dispute Aoi's point. When Nakumara came back to class banter between him and Erika occurs when she asks why he missed so much school time. Tomozaki realizes how intimidating this girl can be. But in a way this interaction helps him figure out his approach to the problem.

For Tomozaki's plan was when he realized Erika has a deep rooting concern with friends. Revisiting his conversation Gumpi is that there is cost-reward system. The reason why Erika cares about appearances as much as she does is the ties with her friends. Yuzu being one of her friends she wanted her to push Erika to compete because it is important to her. The 2nd part is that he realized there is some friction between Aoi and Erika mostly due to Erika. Aoi putting it our there how important it was to win. And girl politics can be complicacted and basically Aoi made an effort to make it so that Erika's status in class would be on the line. Which is clearly something she cares about. The last bit on Mizusawa's end was to make Erika think doing well in the sports tournament would give her points with Nakumara. After all she clearly liked him considering she went out of her way to talk to him once he came back.

The plan was very thought out. And Tomozaki did well in executing it. Aoi being impressed had him work on his layups so he can just try to get more points with the other guys in class. It didn't exactly help too much but putting the effort was the main thing. He just needed to make layups enough for him to be noticed by other members of the class. Both the boys and girls of the class did very well. After the sports tournament Yuzu asks Nakumara if they want to walk him together. No surprise the rest of the group ends up tailing them. Confession begins awkwardly for both of them and they go out following this. Once again Yuzu's push to improve was the starter for all of this and gave her the confidence she needed to press on forward.

Erika on the other hand was rather pissed that Nakumara and Yuzu are now dating. Since she can't take it out on either of them since she cares too much what people think of her she bullies Hirabyashi-san. Just because she nothing to do with Yuzu and Nakumara dating doesn't mean there is no reason for Erika to point out her frustrations on her. She simply is an easy target for her. Tomozaki and Aoi talk about the situation, while Aoi's point of Hirabyashi-san is just taking it from Erika and could do something about. It is clear that Tomozaki sees that Aoi may not realize that Aoi doesn't understand the perspective of a defenseless victim. After all Aoi's confidence is through the roof. Yuzu is in an awkward spot since she is friends with Erika, so all she can do is provide emotional support for Hirabyashi-san. Tama is the one who comes to Hirabyashi-san and unfortunately the only thing this does is push the bullying to Tama.

The conversation between Tomozaki and Aoi is much different and very interesting this time around. Basically Aoi being more angry about the current situation is clearly done by the fact she considers Tama to be her friend. Aoi gives a dark gaze that could allude she is not only going to attempt to interfere, but as a result make Erika suffer as a consequence. On the other end Mimimi is doing everything she can to cheer up Tama as best as she could. But even it is starting to get to her if she is doing enough. The interesting point here is that Tama was concerened if she was doing enough for Mimimi back when she was pushing herself too far. Obviously Tomozaki gives her encouragement that she is.

Since more then likely Tama or Erika leaving the situation alone wouldn't happen. Tomozaki realized the only other solution would be for the mood of the class was to target Erika instead of Tama. Which is very likely what Aoi's solution is, which is very much would harm Erika's reputation. But Tomozaki realizes that this is taking its toll on Tama and simply put being there and protecting Tama should be the number one priority. This solution is more long winded, but it is most important because even if the situation gets resolved, if the situation mess with Tama too much that is the worst outcome. Tama going up to Tomozaki and wanting to change was a big and surprising step for her. But it follows just like with Yuzu and Fuuka when you see someone who is similar to you make a big change for improvement. Tama looks like it like maybe I can do it too. Curious to see how the rest of this bullying arc plays out because there is a variety of directions this can go.

Damn this volume went pretty fukking hard in the final chapter of the volume. Like this is the volume that shows how well written the series is.

So while it was good on Tama for wanting to change. He may not be the best person for that. Using Aoi's lessons is kind of a bad way to approach it because those were meant to fix Tomozaki issues and Tama has her own issues. Well the voice recording idea is still a good one here considering that it is one of Tama's issues, but again this is more that it so happens to be a good way for Tama to work on her tone. It helps with the issue is that how she talks makes it really tougher for people to approach her. Good thing she notices that she needs to soften her tone.

Aoi mentions that it is pointless if Tama ends up changing. The discount here is that Tama shouldn't change from being asserting herself saying no to being passive like Hibrayashi-san is. I'm pretty sure Tomozaki didn't mean that but it is a given that she won't be helping him here. Mizusawa being willing to help out is a huge plus since Tomozaki is gonna need help. But of course Mizusawa isn't doing it completely out of the good interest of his heart. One great point he brings up is that Tama has first clashed with Nakumara and now Erika. 2/3 vocal leaders in their class so again her aggressive tone slightly was an issue and got her to this point. And given the situation creating a bigger target will just make the situation worse. Which leads to Tomozaki's plan to protect Tama.

Aoi is obviously planning something. She mentions that she requests Yuzu and Nakumara to see each other less and especially on weekends. She also has been talking with Mika Akiyama, whom is a friend of Erika's. So more stuff is up in the air. Mizusawa suggests to use Takei as a practice partner to talk with since he won't present a situation to make her morale worse. One excellent aspect Mizusawa brings up is charm. Takei and Tama are both similar in being themselves, but Tama lacks charm like Takei has which makes her much less approachable. Charm is basically something about that person that is unique and can be seen as a likable trait. Tama doesn't possess this at all. Tomozaki realizes that like him Tama doesn't care about the people in this class thus her issues with being approachable and lacking in charm.

On one day going back to the group is Tomozaki, Aoi, Mimimi, MIzusawa, Tama and Takei. And Aoi's dialouge to Aoi is interesting where she says she doesn't want to change rather then you shouldn't have to change. The former makes it more from Aoi's wants while the latter is more in terms of Tama and what is best for it. It's the first thing that sets Tama off. Tho with Mimimi's help they realize due to Tama's name and height she can make a minor joke of herself be the start of her showing her charm. Baby steps here is the key. Tomozaki suggests using Fuka to practice with. Fuka brings up the point that girls like Erika are weak when they are bullying since they aren't willing to face the true root of the problem. And for the kids its easier to go with the flow. Mizusawa gets Tomozaki to walk home with Fuka showing he truly is a great friend for him.

Issue comes the next since someone spotted Tama with Takei, Mizusawa and Tomozaki and well rumors start with her being protected by men. So the situation gets worse. Erika ends up breaking Tama's charm that Mimimi gave her. :mjcry: This is a point that really pisses off Aoi. Basically this is the point that pushes Aoi into demonic mode :demonic:

Erika gets her mechanical broken and immediately blames Tama. Aoi was able to prove Tama's innocence here. Then she proceeds to blame Akiyama for it. Looking at this situation you can take a clear view how Aoi manipulated it. She made sure Tama was with her that morning so she couldn't be blamed. And knowing Akiyama's frustrations with Erika clearly told her she has her back. Akiyama verbal insults Erika's makeup which leads to Erika poking her in the eye and having Akiyama fall off the desk. Then Aoi proceeds to tell her to apologize. Aoi knowing full well how ignorant Erika is and wouldn't agree to it even if it would stop the situation from getting worse. Erika creates even more damage by blaming Nakumara and Yuzu for dating. Which isn't their problem, which makes Erika sound like a clown.

Tomozaki showing the good nature in him by trying to get Aoi to stop as there is no need. She goes the next level. This is the part where she tries to truly humiliate Erika :picard:. This is a point where you wonder if this is the real Aoi. She clearly feels like someone who will stand by her friend's eyes. But if you are the type to go against that you will invoke a monster. Big difference between Tomozaki and Aoi. While Tomozaki thought of the idea of turning the mood of the class against Erika, but its clear he wouldn't take it this far. With Erika crying she purposely gets Nakumara to give the tissue that Yuzu made him. Hitting even more damage to Erika.

But big moment for Tama to use the lessons she learned from both Tomozaki and Mizusawa. Where she stands up for Erika. She is someone of principle and bullying when the situation is well in hand is something she can't stand. So good on her to sticking to her principles. And to even add the fact she notices how Aoi is acting. Now this is interesting as will this affect their friendship. In the aftermath when Mizusawa and Tomozaki talk the reflect on what Tama said of Aoi since they both are aware of the mask that Aoi wears. But a really nice moment where Mizusawa admits that Tama and him rubbed off on him in a good way. Him being more true to him self in that telling Tomozaki straight up he likes Aoi is a nice development for Mizusawa since at the start he was more similiar to Aoi in hiding who he truly was. Tomozaki mentions wanting to know who Aoi really is because to put it frank he knew Aoi was hiding who she is. But what he saw was a complete shock to him.

All is well ends well for Tama here. She ends up using Tomozaki's lessons to start lossening up and even bonding with her classmates. And even is on better terms with Nakumara which is a big W for her.

Aoi is my favorite anime sociopath. What she did at the end of vol 5 was 3D chess. Her reason for helping Tomozaki revealed in later volumes is almost as crazy as the end of vol 5.
