Courtney Irby, 32, was arrested after taking her husband's guns and turning them over to police.
According to the arrest affidavit, she told an officer she had the guns and he asked if she had committed an armed burglary. According to the affidavit, she said "yes," but explained that her husband wasn't going to turn them in. Police later spoke to Joseph Irby, who said he wanted to press charges.

She was arrested last week on charges of armed burglary of a dwelling and grand theft of a firearm.

The Ledger reports the couple was in the midst of a divorce. Court records show she applied for a temporary injunction against her husband.

CONCH KEY, Fla. (WSVN) – A Marathon man has been arrested after he threatened his coworkers at a Conch Key business with a knife, took off all his clothes and passed out the business’ office.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call about a disorderly intoxicated person at Nichols Seafood at approximately 5:15 p.m., Friday.

When deputies arrived on scene, 46-year-old Adianel Torna Morales was found naked and asleep in an office.

An employee told officials Torna Morales had been drinking at work and became belligerent. When he was asked to leave, he damaged security cameras and grabbed a fillet knife.

Employees took the knife away from Torna Morales before he made his way around the business stripping his clothes off.

Witnesses said he then made his way into the office and fell asleep, where he was later found by deputies.

After a struggle in which Torna Morales was shocked with a Taser, deputies were able to take him into custody.

Torna Morales has been charged with disorderly intoxication, battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief and resisting arrest with violence.

He is being held on a $45,000 bond.

85 arrested in human trafficking sting

Courtesy: Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida say they’ve arrested 85 people in a months-long, human trafficking sting.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister announced the arrests Monday.

Officials say “Operation Trade Secrets” began at the beginning of the year, focusing on hotels, motels, spas, massage parlors, strip clubs, adult bookstores and other activities.

Chronister says one of the people arrested was a sex trafficker, while others face charges such as prostitution, child pornography and voyeurism.

Florida had the third-most calls last year to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

Human trafficking is a particular concern for Tampa, which will host the Super Bowl in 2021. The FBI netted 169 arrests in a sex trafficking sting around Atlanta during this year’s NFL championship game.

Sheriff: Toddler found wandering on side of highway, adults found passed out in home

OAK HILL, Fla. (WSVN) — Deputies have arrested a Florida couple after a toddler was found wandering down the side of the road in nothing but a dirty diaper and covered in bug bites.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, a passerby and a mail carrier saw the child wandering down the street unsupervised and intervened before he could be hit by a car, Monday afternoon.

One of the deputies who responded to the scene recognized the child and went to his home in search of his caretakers, identified as 28-year-old Yajaira Tirado and 25-year-old Jacob Krueger.

Officials said the deputy knew where to find them from a previous case in January 2018 where Tirado was charged with child neglect after deputies found two children alone inside a house with a vicious aggressive dog, along with an unsecured shotgun and ammunition.

In Monday’s incident, investigators said they found the couple passed out in their mobile home, “each apparently under the influence of drugs, frothing at the mouth and initially not responding to the sound of his voice.”

Detectives said it wasn’t until the deputy yelled and struck the wall loudly that the couple woke up, got dressed and came outside.

While conducting their investigation, detectives said they kept the child in the back seat of the patrol car because there were broken beer bottles on the ground and several knives within the toddler’s reach.

Deputies also said the home itself was messy and in poor condition.

When asked about breakfast, deputies said Tirado responded that the toddler usually “pulls like bread and stuff out by himself.”

The boy was taken into custody of the Department of Children and Families while Tirado and Krueger were charged with child neglect.

Ring video shows man poop in driveway of Florida resident's home

(WPLG/CNN) - A Broward County man's Ring surveillance camera captured someone relieving himself on his driveway during the day.

"I know when it comes for you to go, you have to go," said victim Wilton Thomas.

Thomas is trying to understand the situation but is frustrated after seeing the surveillance video of some dude dropping a deuce on his driveway.

"He could have drove himself right toward the left in the fence, toward the coconut tree and do what he wants to do there. That would be no problem, but in my driveway?" Thomas asks.

Thomas says it was around 4 p.m. Saturday while he was at work that a green car pulled up.

"(The driver) just opened his door and pulled his shirt all of the way over and then stooped down and that was it," said Thomas.

Then, just as quickly as he arrived, the party pooper drives off, leaving his shirt and his stool behind.

Thomas says when he got home it was too late to take care of it right away, so he waited until Sunday morning to take on the turd.

"I went in the hot sun, scraped it up, put it into a bag, and I poured bleach and then I hosed and washed the whole thing off," said Thomas.

Now, he says he's ready to put this smelly situation behind him. He just wants an apology from the person responsible.

"Knock and say, ‘Man, you know what I had an emergency, I had nowhere to go, and this is where I had to do what I had to do,’" said Thomas.

Woman accused of disturbing sea turtle nest held without bond after trying to leave US
Yaquin Lu, 41, claims she didn't know she was forbidden to leave country

Regardless, a Miami-Dade County judge ordered that Lu be held without bond as she awaits trial on a charge of harassing a marine turtle/eggs.

According to Miami Beach police, Lu was spotted by officers and bystanders June 15 crossing into an area that had been closed off with wooden stakes and yellow tape around the perimeter of the nest.

Police said Lu used one of the wooden stakes to jab at the eggs and then walked over them with her bare feet.

Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called in and determined that none of the eggs were damaged.

Sea turtles are protected by the U.S. Endangered Species Act of 1973 and nesting season on Miami Beach runs from May 1 through Oct. 31.

Polk County deputies say an alligator was seen nearby when the body was found in the Fort Meade-area canal around 7:30 a.m.

The 12-foot, 449 pound alligator was captured and a necropsy will be performed to see if the animal was involved in the man's death, WFTS reports.

13-foot hammerhead shark spotted off Florida coast

Courtesy: Navarre Beach Fire Rescue

Joel Franco

(WSVN) - A hammerhead shark was seen swimming uncomfortably close to a Florida beach.

The Navarre Beach Fire Rescue shared several images of the shark’s fins sticking out of the ocean water, Tuesday.

“Approximate 13 foot Hammerhead shark swimming just off our beach today!” the post read.

While this may seem like a rare occasion, the species has actually been seen in the Gulf Coast waters recently.

A hammerhead shark was spotted surrounding a boat near Anna Maria Island on May 28.

Just that same day, the same type of shark was caught on video swimming close to a Pasco Sheriff’s Office boat.

Man breaks in to rob a Florida Wendy’s but stops to make himself dinner first

Courtesy: Martin County Sheriff's office

CNN

(CNN) — He’s the “modern day Hamburglar,” police say, and he was caught on camera making himself a burger before robbing a Florida Wendy’s.

Patrick Benson, 34, was arrested Saturday and charged with burglary, grand theft and attempted burglary, according to a news release from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Security footage at the Jensen Beach restaurant appears to catch Benson in the act and also reveals a strange part of his process.

After breaking the windows with a brick or large rocks after hours, Benson started up the grill, made himself a burger and ate it, the sheriff’s office said. Only after his meal did he grab the safe and make his escape.

His may be a unique case, but it was not the only time he did it.

“The suspect has been successful at forcing his way into two restaurants cooking himself some dinner — then stealing what he can’t consume,” the sheriff’s office said Friday.

Benson did not appear in a rush, and “casually” made his way through the restaurants choosing what he would steal, according to the release.

Images from security footage brought in many tips on the identity of the man dubbed the Hamburglar, the office said. Benson is now in the Martin County Jail.

Family enrolls overweight cat for ‘fat camp’ at University of Florida

A feline is working hard on her fitness at a Florida university.

Meet Laila the cat. She’s the only animal enrolled at a weight loss camp at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Her owners signed her up after she put on some pounds and was unable to jump on anything.

Once a week, the kitty goes through a rigorous exercise routine, which includes running on the treadmill and swimming.

It seems to be paying off because her family said Laila has already lost two pounds.
