Before I begin I hope this doesn't turn into a reality tv bashing thread
By me saying that NO i'm not defending reality tv I don't watch it at all

Black tv shows are still being produced, They just moved on to drama.

Power
Survivor's Remorse
Saints and Sinners (BounceTV)
Scandal
Insecure
Empire
ect.

And there still are black sitcoms being made.

Black-ish
Family Time (Bounce TV)
The Mayor (ABC this fall)
Grown Folks (Bounce TV this fall)

The fallacy of the simple life doesn't work in a cynical 21st century.

We felt good about the Black shows in the 90s because white people felt comfortable watching us prosper and learning about our culture on tv. Once cacs started to see us get too "normal"...it threatened the status quo.

Ignorance and shock tv prevailed.

I can barely see the chart but If the most whittest column/row is in the late 2000s/early 2010s I wouldnt be surprised

There seem to be no new black show at all between 09-11
And The black shows that were made between 2009-2011 got cancelled due to lack of popularity

Black shows didnt start popping up till late 2012- early 2013

The host of that vlog was distractingly annoying, from the terrible wig, to the bow, to the poor makeup color choice

Anyway, I don't get dude's criticism of black 90's sitcoms, that was the format of sitcoms in general back then. Hardly any of them were dramatic or delved into deeper exploration of topics.

Lastly, the mid/late 80's-very early aughts was the GOAT era for black media across the board. tons of black shows, movies, magazines, popular black authors/poets, black comedians, black talk shows, hbcu culture as part of general black culture, great hip hop and r&b...:ahh:

I thought it was on its way back between Blackish and The Carmichael show....

But The Carmichael Show being canceled hurt my soul.

I still love Blackish but it's more focused on rich Black people in a white neighborhood trying to "keep it real"

Very true. Even with Marlon, he's ballin off a web hustle, his ex is in a giant house, her girl is in a lavish apartment, and there was an episode where he's trying to keep his spoiled and rich kids grounded by "bringing the hood" into their lives
Black people being rich is great to see, but at the same time it was nice to see Carmichael's living mad regular. That's something that really been missing from any black sitcom in years. Think of many of the GOAT black sitcoms

Sanford & Son - nikkas lived in a junkyard in Watts
Good Times - PJ's
What's Happening!! - LA hood
227 - apartment building with the stoop
Different World - struggle college living
Fresh Prince - Will was still going to hood spots, Jazz in Compton, going home to Philly
Martin - one bedroom apartment in the hood
Living Single - 3 females splitting rent
Jamie Foxx - lived in a hotel room and rode the bus most of it's run
Wayans Bros - bummy apartment in Harlem

Even with the new mini-boom in black shows, I'm sure we never getting one with black people in the hood again.

I feel like we're having a slight renaissance in black tv now but as others said with Carmichael show gone and Atlanta on hiatus till next year we still got a ways to go on the comedy side.
