What happened to Rock is slowly happening to Rap. You are seeing the beginning of Rap no longer being the dominant genre in music

Black music in general has lost its foundation.

I mentioned this in the Booth a while back. Think about it

From 1900 to 1930 we created modern Gospel, ragtime, the blues, and early jazz

1930 to 1960 big bad jazz, bebop, early rock, and r&b

1960 to 1990, funk, more r&b, modern pop, and rap

1990 to 2020....rap, other rap, worse rap

And don't argue with me that the diversity of rap matches older eras.

It’s trash now my guy

Overwhelmingly negative and an abomination
It's plenty of good artists dropping quality projects every year. Problem is that they don't get the support

Folks will rather complain about the thot rapper of the week being trash than going out their way to buy albums like Ramona Park broke my heart or Frank :manny:

That might’ve been true in 2016.

There hasn’t been a genuine superstar hip hop artist in at least 6 years that’s still alive. Lil Baby almost had it then released a dud album. Gunna had it then snitched on his crew. Thug never transcended like that but he might be done legally. Drugs messed Kodak up. Meg don’t sell records. Dababy done. Pop Smoke dead. Juicewrld dead. Xxx dead.

The only new gen doing it right are Tyler, Uzi and Travis. And they all debuted close to 10 years ago. Maybe a lil later for Uzi.

I was out recently at a young nikka party. They boo’d theDj when he played modern rap. They just wanted Afrobeats.

In my age bracket it’s throwbacks, Afrobeats and amapiano

My coworkers are mostly in their 20s, and the kind of music I hear has changed a lot recently. A few years ago it was like a Rap Caviar playlist nonstop, now I hear more semi-throwbacks, Afrobeats, Jamaican music. Even some pop.
