Planet Fitness is designed to milk $10 a month from a mass of people who aren't really serious about working out. These people start up every January and by April they aren't going to the gym consistently anymore but $10 a month is painless so they still have the bank draft setup.Let me add my 2 cents:
Ive been with Planet Fitness for about 4 yrs, I originally joined due to the price and the particular one I go to is never really crowded except for the hours of like 4pm-8pm, and I usually go in the morning. Is it a perfect gym, far from it, I dont like the color scheme but that isnt a huge issue, I wish they had more free weights and less of the cardio machines which honestly they have way to many. There are some gym rats (ie the buff muscular guys) that go to the gym but honestly for the most part I see more older people (ie 40-55) and women than I do men my age (late 20s) but then again i go between the hrs of 8am-11am). I just got back myself. There is 1 personal trainer who looks like he is 18 and I never see him with anyone, so take that whichever way you want to. I may be looking at another gym because I want to start using the rower and it appears my gym doesnt have 1. Also yea the tanning machine is stupid, I never see anyone use them most real tanners are going to go elsewhere
What serious gym has pizza day and a bowl of tootsie rolls by the door? There's a reason Planet Fitness doesn't have squat racks or benches for bench presses. It's not because that stuff is too expensive it's because they want that casual person that's not really so dedicated who will continue to pay that $10 a month. That's why there's this culture there that mocks serious gym goers.
That being said you can make what they have work for you to a certain extent but when you get serious about strength training you're gonna need more than they offer.
