My plan was to go to law school, so since there's no one major that's recommended before going to law school, I went with political science since I've an interest in politics. Only when I was one class away from fulfilling the major requirements did I realize two things:

- I don't like writing long essays. Not that I'm bad at writing them, but I figured I'd be doing a lot more of it in law school and after graduation and it's not something I enjoy doing.
- More importantly, I found out about the glut of law school graduates, the lack of jobs to accommodate them, and the stupidly high levels of debt they go into :sadbron:

So I took an intro to programming class and now wish I chose computer science as my undergraduate major instead. It looks like I'll be going for an MA in computer science instead (and in the meantime, taking some of the undergraduate prerequisites I need to take). I'll still have to take out loans, but I figure it shouldn't be as expensive and it's in a field I'd like to get in to.

Dam, I had almost the same experience. Wanted to go pre-law because I wanted to be Clair Huxtable. My HBCU only offered Poli Sci so I chose that major and stuck it out. AS soon as I was about to take the LSAT, it hit me - I don't really even like this sh1t enough to take on 6 figures worth of debt (after all is said and done with law school). I ended up gaining a lot of experience in IT - relational databases and B2B networking. So even though my degree is in Poli Sci, I was able to move on. What I really want is to own my own business so I can break these coporate shackles :sadcam:

Good luck with your studies fam :salute:

IMHO people will always need 2 things...at least until a huge paradigm shift.
1. People to count their money.
2. People to maintain the systems that the people in group 1 use to count the money.

Those two key factors in mind, I went with option 1, sorta wish i'd gone option 2.

Major in accounting/finance or something computer related and you wont be fuked as badly when you get out of college.

If you like biology then pick it up as a hobby:smile:

I didn't know what I wanted to major in, took a few accounting classes and did well and here I am. I at least know I can get a job and make good money. I'm gonna need to pay off some loans, and it's not the end of the world if I end up wanting to do something different :manny: life is a long long journey. I really want to save up a bunch of money and travel like crazy.

I am and always have been a computer nerd, so I started out majoring in Computer Science. After two semesters, I discovered that, while I didn't mind programming, Calculus was just not for me.

So, at my advisor's suggestion, I switched to IT.

That's pretty much it.

I'm sure some of the-coli's math scholars would have helped you breh

My major is accounting. After spending a lot of time in and out of school and trying to figure out what I wanted to do I figured why not stick with what I'm good at i.e. Math. It was down to Finance, Accounting and Math for me and I figured I could do the most with an Accounting degree plus my school is a target school for accounting and CPAs make bread on top of that.

We have an undergrad CPA program which it seems not a lot of schools have. But I'm in the dual-degree program since my GPA is high enough. I figure I'm 24 and why waste any more time when I can have my MBA by 26. :yeshrug:

One more obstacle to go before starting the grad portion of my program.... Taking the GMAT in 4 weeks. Wish me luck. Got a 620 on the GMATprep practice test so I should be good.

I wanted to do something in science and/or engineering, but I had no idea what. I chose math because it was the broadest, and the engineering prereqs are a bytch, not because they're hard, but because there are SO MANY of them, and I had already missed several, which would have held back my graduation.

Funny thing is, I was always better at English than math. I just wanted to go into science because I watched a lot of TechTV/Discovery/Science Channel, and I was on the robotics team in high school.

What's practical, requires the least amount of work and effort, and could still most likely get me hired for a myriad of positions when I get out :patrice:

Graduated high school with a 2.4, went to community college with no direction, adviser didn't help at all, so a couple quarters before I got my AA I decided to copy my dad's path and get a BA in Economics. I had some interest in it which only grew after taking introductory courses.

I'll be finished in about 5 weeks. I think I made the right choice, though there are many other degrees I would be interested in... I just enjoy gaining knowledge -- learning more about how the world works. Econ gave me a good dose of that, and I also have some data analysis skills that translate directly to the workforce.

I'm not really interested in things that make money. I'm only interested in things that look pretty and things that are beneficial to black people in America. So for my degree choice....

I wanted to be able to afford kids and a household... but also have a nice lil side apartment to bring bytches to - And also have enough money that I could afford to have nice looking side bytches - because no decent women is gonna be the side bytch of a broke man. ... so I joined the military (so i wouldn't have the loans), went to school.. got into software development.
