My plan was to go to law school, so since there's no one major that's recommended before going to law school, I went with political science since I've an interest in politics. Only when I was one class away from fulfilling the major requirements did I realize two things:
- I don't like writing long essays. Not that I'm bad at writing them, but I figured I'd be doing a lot more of it in law school and after graduation and it's not something I enjoy doing.
- More importantly, I found out about the glut of law school graduates, the lack of jobs to accommodate them, and the stupidly high levels of debt they go into
So I took an intro to programming class and now wish I chose computer science as my undergraduate major instead. It looks like I'll be going for an MA in computer science instead (and in the meantime, taking some of the undergraduate prerequisites I need to take). I'll still have to take out loans, but I figure it shouldn't be as expensive and it's in a field I'd like to get in to.
I am and always have been a computer nerd, so I started out majoring in Computer Science. After two semesters, I discovered that, while I didn't mind programming, Calculus was just not for me.
So, at my advisor's suggestion, I switched to IT.
That's pretty much it.
I wanted to do something in science and/or engineering, but I had no idea what. I chose math because it was the broadest, and the engineering prereqs are a bytch, not because they're hard, but because there are SO MANY of them, and I had already missed several, which would have held back my graduation.
Funny thing is, I was always better at English than math. I just wanted to go into science because I watched a lot of TechTV/Discovery/Science Channel, and I was on the robotics team in high school.
you too.Science and Law both interested me so i got my BA/BS in Poli Sci and Bio. I think that in retrospect, I would have just gone full Neuro. shyt is fascinating.
