As far as special effects I'd say "The Matrix". It would definitely be "T2" if "The Matrix" didn't exist. Everything had bullet-time for a minute.

As far as dialogue, plotting, and over all direction I'd say virtually any Tarantino movie.

from this thread I want to say the best answers are in order
  1. Toy Story; this is actually a better answer than my original suggestion, imo it is the answer
  2. Saving private ryan
  3. Pulp Fiction
  4. The Matrix
  5. BLADE - this was the first comic movie in years to take itself serious is and the blueprint for all that followed in terms of adapting a comic charactortype and world into modern society...
i agree with this list, but didnt The Crow come out bfore blade? i think you coulda slid that in as the comic book movie :manny:

I think the argument against the Crow is that Batman Forever and Batman and Robin dropped right after it, not to mention Steel. Comic book flicks were dead in the water before Blade dropped in 98 and sparked a mini revival which led to X Men which then led to Spider man and all bets were off

T1k IMO is a template for the characters in the matrix. Especially agent smith.

T2 launched the elite special effects which Is still now the status quo.

Rated R blockbuster as well.

This thread reminded me how amazing 90's Hollywood was :banderas:

Seriously...

Some really great selections....I'll throw out a dark horse selection in "there's something about mary"....The movie was insanely popular, and redefined the comedy genre setting a template that a lot of popular comedies seemed to emulate years after.

This thread also reminds me of a topic I've read about and heard podcasts about: how great of a year 1999 was for film. Something about Mary, The Matrix, Fight Club, South Park, Toy Story 2, Iron Giant, Magnolia and I'm sure I'm missing some

I'd say Dumb & Dumber and American Pie had a little bit more of an impact:manny:

in no particular order

Scream: I think it had an influence on horror movies that came after it.

Titanic: It was a cultural classic in the United States and probably the biggest movie made in the 90s

Lion King: Who hasn't seen Lion King?

Matrix: nothing needs to be said

yall just naming movies yall like and aren't pointing out any influences

You should just say most memorable movies from 90's

Pulp Fiction is a the quintessential 90's film so to speak, but I can't think of movie thats tried to emulate it
only thing I think of was Crash told the story in a similar way

From a special effects stand point, its the Matrix, because they are still using those techniques in films till this day

and Toy Story because all those animated films resemble it, but then again they're all made by pixar for the most part, and to be real the computer animation isn't that good I've seen cut scenes in video games crushing that shyt
