i think x-men has a lot more to do with today's superhero movies than blade. blade simply hit its niche and really didnt spark anything.

toy story seems to be the best answer with pulp fiction as a very distant second.

I'll agree with X Men but then that's 2000s

right. i think the 90s is not really relevant to super hero flicks. the 90s was more about the slow decline of the traditional american action hero (arnold, sylvester, snipes). in that regard, the matrix did more to pave the way for super heroes in the 90s than anything else (even though it is not a comic book) but of course that was in the very last year of the 90s...

im surprised nobody mentioned The Sixth Sense

so many movies and tv shows have tried to bite that movie and failed...the most recent one i remember is Dexter with the doomsday killer season but everybody figured it out after the 1st episode

By far

Friday (comedy)
The Matrix (action and Sci Fi)
Terminator 2 (still looks good 20+ years later)
Jurassic Park (sound editing hasn't been the same)
Pulp Fiction (re-introduced the genre)
Seven/Silence of the Lambs (all thrillers are trying to be these)
Saving Private Ryan (war films havent been the same since)

gotta go w. Blair Witch Project, they birthed all these low budget, super high return horror flicks. Also it was the most profitable movie of ALL time until Paranormal Activity, which is crazy to think about :mindblown:

There's Something About Mary set a blueprint for future gross out comedies.

last but not least Twister. that flick has been influencing disaster movies for 18 years since it's come out, it was also the first movie released on DVD.

I came in here to say Pulp Fiction but its hard to argue against The Matrix, Toy Story and Jurassic Park. There was a solid case for Saving Private Ryan as well but I don't think it matches what the other 4 have done. It'd certainly be in at least the top 10 though.

An offbeat answer might be Independence Day which reinvigorated the "disaster" genre of summer blockbusters

Ghostface was what Freddie was in the 80s, he slash thru and made horror/villainous killers viable again:myman:

It showed horror psychological flicks could still connect to the mainstream, and ushered in films like The Ring:mindblown:

I can't remember what season Jurassic Park dropped, but Independence Day definitely made Hollywood churn out those summer blockbuster flicks on hundred thousand trillion:yeshrug:
