Do your research and pick a language. I am trying to focus on web applications and backend API services so I have been working mainy with Ruby and Ruby on Rails. HTML/CSS will come easily over time. You want to get started learning the basics of Ruby like conditional statements, looping, using methods and classes.what do you have to do to get started?

A great place to start is learnrubythehardway.org, the shyt is free. My advice is just get started, it sucks in the beginning because you have to learn mundane things that seem confusing and you can't figure out what the purpose of it all is; but after a month or two things really start to pick up and you can build some cool shyt.
For example right now I am working on building a web app that keeps track of every negative tweet that is sent to @comcast and then every negative tweet that is sent to @twc. Every hour the app hits twitters api and stores these tweets in my DB. I am going to have a home page that has a graph representing the amount of tweets ppl send about hating either of those two companies and compare them.
This is a small pointless project but I enjoy doing it and it helps me learn.(Also fukk TWC and Comcast) Try to pick something that you are interested in and build a program about that.
Last week when Kanye was losing his mind on twitter I decided to make this: www.yetweets.us
Just pick a project and try to get started if you want any more advice hit me up
Currently selling cars at the local Maserati dealership.
Hopefully will be moving to Mitsubishi dealer here soon to become VP of Finance. Been waiting for my uncle to open up a dealer for years. Going to be a very stressful rest of the year. #blackexcellence though.
4 Weeks and making 55K.
At least be realistic. Yea it is a great field to be in but you are not getting employed after putting in 4 weeks of work. Realistically if you are studying 8+ hours a day for 6 months you could probably land a job as a junior dev making between 45-50K if EVERYTHING goes right.
But once you get that first job and prove yourself as competent you are set
I am speaking as someone who got a Econ degree worked in finance and decided to switch up careers. I have been working at it for around 6 months now and just accepted my first dev job.
Cool thing about car sales is that there's always a job available. Rarely do people stay in one place long in the auto business. How did you get in that? I thought about selling cars at one point but didn't know how to get into it.
