As much as they used to annoy me (Jesse to a lesser degree, How could anyone take Fat greasy AL seriously back in the day tho? smh)

They both were and are needed, we need someone going to bat for us in the public eye even if we're wrong

We're outnumbered and hated by the entire world, I'm not wasting my energy criticizing them when we got real villains trying to kick our door in.

Not talking about symbolic victories or powerful statements, what did ALL of us benefit from their "work".

And I'm asking seriously, not to be critical or hateful - I'd like to get a dialogue going if possible.

From my viewpoint, they seem to have enriched themselves and furthered the democratic party's political agenda by ensuring the black vote - so other than this? :francis:
al and jessie kept activism vibrant in black communities. they promoted black solidarity in the strongest of ways. all of your black activist need funds to fight for your cause, it is not cheap

First off are you not black? You worded that interestingly :jbhmm:

And I definitely don’t agree that they kept that spirit of activism alive, that’s embedded in most of us naturally

And it always bothered me that there was no Rainbow Push or NAN scholarships or community centers in inner cities across the country - so I don’t care about the money they generated.

Are there anyone that's been on the front line and/or putting efforts to positively service Black people that you nikkas don't criticize?

My people's used to call them "Pilgrims for Profit" and "Crusaders for Cash"...
I know personally, in the 90s Al used to charge 15-20k to come and protest if your cause didn't have enough media attention. If it did, he would try to thrust himself into the center and dictate payouts if there were any to be had
As he should.
Pay that man for his service and sacrifice

bubu #buyBlack #bankBlack but don't support Black activists or pro-Black lifers, shyt makes no sense

Black folks continue to contribute to your own plight

why would there be a rainbow push or nan anything when all of you refuse to support your own which is why it cease operation. secondly, activism is not embedded in us, there was no youth community group that was challenging the status quo in ny or Chicago that were dealing with economic exploitation and brutal behavior from the white man

He tried to sell drugs in his own community and is an admitted fbi informant all while parading as an "activist". You can put him on a pedestal but I won't

1) they were being funded by lobbyists, politicians, and shaking down corporations all throughout the 80's and 90's; they had money they just didn't redistribute it to the black community on a national level.

2) what would you call this then :jbhmm:

So which is it, he was buying drugs to sell in the Black community or was he a mob rat?
Was the government using him to take down Black activists or the Mob?
Was he used to get at Don King and corruption in boxing?
who did he snitch on?
why isn't he in jail?

Sorry breh, I'm not the lazy type to use labels so that my imagination could fill in gaps to a story
