not sure whats with the binary thinking here of "well either max him out or trade him" lol ... i'm sure IT would be more appreciative of an offer that may be less than what he wanted at the time (one that he can turn down which would be a mutual business decision) rather than him getting injured playing for the team, grieving his sister, then be traded for parts on some "yeah sorry u hurt sooooo"
He got traded for a better player in Kyrie, a deal that 29 other GMs would've made even if IT was healthy.

I feel like the Celts squad responded more to IT than they do/did to Kyrie. Am I wrong?

I'm pretty sure y'all would have a whole squad of cats scrapping every game instead of cats starting fights in the huddles and media.

That was a different team. Bradley, Crowder, Amir Johnson, Olynyk, Jerebko were role players and accepted that.

Brown & Rozier at that time were inconsequential role players, not guys who helped carry a team on an ECF run. Tatum, Morris & Hayward weren’t there.

Also, the expectations were a lot lower for that team. They basically played with house money through the entire IT run, that is not the case with this team.

i'm not disputing that

i'm saying theres a reaction to every action, clearly other players saw that and didnt appreciate how they did him :manny:

at the end of the day thats what comes with it, no one here is disputing that IT is better than Kyrie

and to the brehs that said IT would have walked if they didnt offer him a max ... maybe, but then the onus would be on him, the optics of how the trade happened, including the timing and lack of courtesy is what rubbed people the wrong way

its a business but people's sentiments on situations affects business all the time

Anthony Davis discusses Boston Celtics trade pursuit and Isaiah Thomas

But in an interview with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Davis discussed the Celtics’ pursuit for his services last season and how his feelings about his place in New Orleans have evolved since the Isaiah Thomas trade.

“He told me that [Boston] was calling, but nothing was going to happen,” Davis said of Pelicans GM Dell Demps. “At the same time, though, you see how organizations treat players. Isaiah Thomas. DeMarcus [Cousins] told me that the [Kings] told him that he wasn’t going to get traded, but they traded him. Isaiah took his team to the Eastern Conference Finals, and they traded him.

“It makes you wonder: Does this organization really have my back?
I’ve been loyal to this organization. I love it here. I love this team. I think we’re moving in the right direction. DeMarcus, [Rajon] Rondo, some other players that are helping us, but people get judged on winning. And I want to win.”
:mjlol:

Looks like AD Sr is only regurgitating what Jr has already said..... If Boston Homer's don't believe they clearly have an image problem among certain players they're living in a state of denial

But the alternative people seem to be suggesting is that Ainge should've re-signed IT to a big deal, which would've resulted in a bunch of money being tied into a guy that's played 32 games since and would have stars like AD going:hubie:because they don't want to be a part of that.

So what?

Were the Celtics supposed to be at the mercy of IT until the end of time? They weren't allowed to let him go until he said it was ok? When was the statute of limitations gonna be up for when the Celtics were gonna be allowed to do what was best for them?

The way it all turned out sucked for IT but he is competitive and chose to try to play through it and the CBA doesn't really give teams any flexibility to be loyal to a player who can no longer perform.

I'm not saying its right, I'm just saying that players can't think they're avoiding that scenario by going to a team other than the Celtics. If you get hurt in a contract year, youre fukked. No team is going to fill their cap space with a guy who can't play anymore.
I think most nba teams would do what the Celtics did with not giving IT a big contract.

What I don’t think is most nba teams would mislead a player on the extent of their injury like Boston.

And they responded by firing the entire medical staff and they did that when IT was very much still on the team. That mistake was acknowledged.

thats fair, and thats why i felt the "this or that" thinking was too extreme on both ends

i'm not shytting on celtics or ainge per se, just trying to give me two cents on why i think players may view this situation a particular way
