I think in October it should be done, and then I assume there will be a final season of sorts. The new director they got working on this has also done an impressive job as well.

Of course the issue with this series is writing and the source material, but since you read the series I think you are aware of that.
Absolutely it's the writing, series has rarely lacked in the visuals and action set pieces. It just lost it's heart along the way, not terrible but not an all-timer contender either.

Man what a heartbreaking episode :mjcry:

The timing of this episode couldn't be more perfect given how Nademonogatari (Nadeko Draw Arc) concluded with the conversation between Shinobu and Nadeko Sengoku. It shows Nadeko's growth since the end of Monogatari 2nd Season. But it brings to light what Shinobu went through.

You know it says something about the trend in the anime industry where we see an episode labeled x.5 and immediately think it is a recap. But here the runtime being 12 mins did make you wonder. Tbh this is such a great series I would watch a recap. As this episode starts, and I assume this is Shinobu telling the story. She mentions how this story really happened 600 years ago. She mentions that a story like this with no morals and salvation is better off left as a lie or fiction in other words. That was the piece of information at the jump that gives you the feeling this story is about to be messed up and heartbreaking.

Recalling from Zoku Owarimonogatari, when Koyomi met Shinobu in the mirror world. Ononoki mentioned how Koyomi Araragi couldn't be in Princess Shinobu's presence too much. This story really explains why she was behind a curtain. Essentially, her beauty was beyond praised, but she wanted to be judged for who she truly was. When the witch gave her that wish, the absolute worst happened. Various people killed themselves because the soul outmatched the outstanding beauty she had.

Her father killed himself for not being aware of this. Her mother killed herself knowing she accomplished her role as a mother and there was not much else she can do. Various artists and performing artists killed themselves because their art couldn't do Princess Shinobu justice. I can't imagine how Shinobu felt seeing the pile of corpses.

Screen_Shot_2024-08-17_at_12.02.43_PM.png

The most depressing thing is Shinobu was unable to die, and she just watched the pile of corpses getting bigger and bigger. Her only option to limit her suffering was to isolate herself. She did that day after days so that no one would suffer the consequence of dying because of her soul, which can be described as a curse.

Screen_Shot_2024-08-17_at_12.03.05_PM.png

This really highlights how much pain Shinobu has been in. Watching all of her people die in front of her. Then having to live in isolation. Then becoming a vampire where her first minion, Seishirou Shishirui tried to commit suicide. It wasn't until she met Koyomi Araragi met Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade in Kizumonogatari where the start of her happiness could start. Though this didn't start materializing until the end of Bakemonogatari since she wanted to kill herself at the end of Kizumonogatari and this episode even gives more indication why she wanted this.

The Elusive Samurai Episode 7

This episode covered chapters 16, 17 and parts of 18. Which got rearranged into the corresponding parts at the end of chapter 17, which is a good change. The fight between Kojiro and Ayako v s Fubuki was very crisp. The usage of Ants at the beginning where a group of them gathered was a nice addition by the studio.

Overall great episode. While the kids were having fun, Yorishige's powers weren't working. And he basically starts freaking out. He became an overprotective parent at the beginning of the episode, and it was funny. He couldn't tell his followers about that, so he was conflicted. Although he did test Shizuku's patience.

While scouting, they encountered Fubuki. The fight between Korjiro and Ayako vs him was crisp and well done. This fight gave us insight on Kojiro and Ayako. The reality that we saw in the Dog Shooting Competition and when they were recruiting Genba is that Tokiyuki isn't untouchable. So it is on to them to raise their skills. I love the focus on them here. Though it is funny, Tokiyuki only realizes now that they were going easy on him in training.

Luckily, Shizuku was around as they got on good terms fast. Fubuki was protecting these kids. This really raises how skilled in combat and smart Fubuki is. He put those kids into positions that they can be useful. The sad point is that there was nothing he could have done for their parents. As skilled and smart Fubuki is, his weakness is his stomach. He could be a powerful ally.

Meanwhile, Sadamune is recruiting some strong thieves as warriors to deal with Yorishige. His logic is very much the same that Yorshige mentioned to Tokiyuki 2 episodes ago. Following a warriors code isn't only enough.

Man, what a beautiful episode. Ryuuji is a good guy looking out for Minamo. She is much too hesitant to take her shot with Natsuki. But as they find out, Natsuki isn't late on romance, but he has a childhood love. It is not with Minamo even though it was his childhood friend. The description he gives is Atri. The moment she listened to him playing the song she sang to him all these years ago, her memories of him came back.

The thing with Atri that has been interesting since the start has been that she feels too real to be a robot. I mean, yes she is a humanoid, but she is one of the more high emotional characters we have seen. She expresses herself so much that you can't believe she isn't human.

As it was teased when the show started, it was Atri that saved him. She found him again and sang him a song. At this point, a lot is on her mind. As she sings that song for him, he remembers that it was Atri that was his first crush. Though one thing that she said struck me. When she says, "It's been awhile, Natsuki." Does she imply it's been awhile since she remembered that he was that boy and getting back her memories? Or did her past self come back? Given she is a humanoid, the latter isn't out of the realm of possibility. I honestly hope it is the former.

We back finally :blessed:

Screen_Shot_2024-08-17_at_5.44.07_PM.png

Nice to be back. We pick up right Wakamiya and Yukiya encounter the big Monkey. Wakamiya is making easy work of them. Then just the horrors that they left behind. Thank god they didn't show the people in the containers. These b*stards are like werewolves with how they shape-shift. Or in this world much like the Yatagarasu. But they don't exhibit much intelligence, but I fear this is something that can be proven wrong. Good thing Wakamiya was quick on his feet to save Yukiya.

They find one survivor in a chest. Honestly, I don't blame Yukiya for being suspicious of Koume. Though as they mentioned, more than likely her father hid her there before he met his demise. Though I can't imagine waking up and everyone you were with are gone. Not to mention her fathers whereabouts in unknown.

As expected of Yukiya's mom. Much like she did with Yukiya she doesn't want to leave behind a child. Granted, Yukiya was much younger when she took him in. I am happy, tried relaxing around her since obviously, she is essentially a victim of that disaster.

As these monkeys are a threat, who knows what their origin is. Can people and the Yatagarasu turn into them? We also got a shady group. Numerous questions as we dive into this arc.

I really liked season 1 of Isekai Suicide Squad. Granted, it's more mid meets guilty pleasure but might as well be HxH s1 level compared to the non-anime animation bullshyt DC been putting out (Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy, etc).

Hope they do a season 2 and that it's not as cookie cutter predictable.

Wistoria: Wand & Sword Episode 6

This episode adapted chapter 8 and some of the Prequel Light novel. Adding the Prequel Ln content in this episode aids this episode so much. I did notice they also extended the conversation between Julius and Wignall, which is nice to see. The animation looks good as always.

We're getting a Sion episode to understand his perspective. Ultimately, it really points out how Will has tunnel vision. He is so set on making it to the tower to reuniting with Elfie. How he is so focused on beating Julius and he barely acknowledges Sion. The flashback on it really points out that Sion wasn't someone that would bully Will. It even shows he wanted to lessen his misery. Will didn't even look at him. I can't get mad at Sion for getting pissed. They didn't have to be friends, but he Will just acknowledge him would be enough. I assume this happened after Elfie ascended to the tower given the state of Will's eyes.

Beyond that though we learn regarding Sion's guardian. Will tells us that these are usually used for defense, but Sion's guardian was used for offense as well. This really emphasizes the claim that Sion said previously he could be top 3 in the school is a claim he can back up.

Another interesting note is that Julius calls Colette the Earth Princess. At the end of the day, none of these titles matter to Colette. She wants to help Will however she can. Being able to stop the fight between Will and Sion was impressive.
