Bakemonogatari: Suruga Monkey
One thing is for sure when this show takes itself seriously it really is
This arc starts with an introduction of Suruga Kanburu, whom is both Senjougahara and Araragi's underclassman. It is mentioned that Kanbaru knew Senjougahara's issues and secret before Araragi. But also Kanbaru worshiped. Another key piece of information is that Senjougahara mentions she will kill whoever kills Araragi. The biggest wtf thing is when someone in a hoodie attacks Araragi. Unsurprising to both us and Araragi, Kanbaru attacked him
We soon learn from Kanbaru that she attacked Araragi because of the Aspiration, "The Monkeys Paw". Basically it will enact your wish, but do so in a manner that you wished it didn't. Clearly the reason she believed is that her first was to win a track meet. However, the other students didn't show up meaning she one by default. Upset by this she quit track and sought to play basketball. This clear vindication this is the work of "The Monkeys Paw". Of course added the point that she loves Senjougahara. Even with it being one-sided loved it gives reason that for her wish to be granted "The Monkeys Paw", would have Araragi killed.
However, Oshino discovers the truth behind it. That what happened to her classmates was actually her deep desires. The same could be said that Kanbaru wanted to kill Araragi since not only is he Senjougahara's boyfriend, but he also saved her. Which is something Kanbaru actually wanted, and her silence confirms it. The aspiration is actually the Rainy Devil rather than "The Monkeys Paw". Of course the easy solution would have been to cut Kanbaru's arm, but Araragi stays in characters and refuses that option. He opens to just take a beating from Kanbaru. Issue being that solves nothing.
In comes Oshino's big plan to solve everything and offer a solution that allows Araragi to live and not to have to cut off Kanbaru's arm. Essentially the idea to force the Rainy Devil in a situation where it can't grant the wish. Essentially presenting Senjougahara to defend Araragi and of course Kanbaru would never try to harm her idol Senjougahara. Even adding fire to what we know from the first episode is that Senjougahara would kill whoever kills Araragi. You can't grant a wish if that person ends up dying, and she wouldn't stop her idol's wishes. Which this presents a solution in a well written manner.
Of course, we do have the manner that Kanbaru's arm isn't back to normal, but that is a small price to pay in this situation. Senjougahara can't love Kanbaru, but she can be her senpai and friend again. Which is more than what Kanbaru can ask for. This was an outstanding arc.
