Finished EP 3 of Bunny Girl Senpai. This was an outstanding well directed episode. The supernatural phenomenon which people are forgetting Mai is tied to sleeping. More than likely it is tied to deep sleep since there was always a few people that remembered her previously since it wasn't one big shot. But Sakuta despite heaving exams refuses to sleep.
I do like how Mai recognizes this and hates to see him in such a miserable state. It identifies basically the concept is it worth it if someone you care about suffering on your behalf? Sakuta looked like a fukking disaster when he got no sleep. Powerful scene where Mai accepts the possibility of being alone again if Sakuta doesn't kill himself mentally over her.
Luckily studying with her was enough of the trigger for him to remember Mai and he decided to put his feelings out there to get people to remember him. Granted it was a cringe worthy scene, but it served its purpose. Puberty Syndrome regarding Mai is cleared after he expresses his love for her. More than likely everyone hearing a love between a boy that they can see and a girl they can't see caused a contradiction. Hard to make out theories from this scene, but if they didn't acknowledge Mai's existence it would imply that they didn't acknowledge Sakuta's feelings for her. Rio's theory at the end of the episode is perhaps the first clue.
They didn't show Mai's perspective of Sakuta forgetting about him. Which would have added more weight, but still is a great scene. Clearly given her reaction to when he finally sees him you could tell that left her heart broken when she tried to talk him, and he couldn't see her. That fears is a scenario that she fears Sakuta could forget about him tomorrow, after all he did forget about her earlier in the day. So her being mad is something you can empathize rather than the typical tsundere troupe which is super outplayed in anime.
