I think you're right. This show has surprisingly more depth than I gave it credit for. Especially on how the MC is being shown by the girls he has a lot to learn. It would be a better show if it dropped the ecchi though.

They tone it down a lot, it has some ecchi moments later on but they went crazy with it in the beginning of the series for sure

Another real good episode OnK episode. Looks like it will be 3 chapters per episode which will put in a great position to end S1 at Ch. 40 which is a great ending point.
But regarding this episode it did a good job showing the state of the twins are and their mentality going forward. Some stuff is rearranged, but I think it was for the better. This will be a tight adaption like SxF and CSM.
More specifically regarding this episode with some minor manga spoilers
Good job showcasing Aqua's despair. This episode was important for setting that up. Where Aqua wants revenge, but he wants to protect the people precious to him. The anime actually made Ruby more likable and adorable then she was when I read these 3 chapters. Her determination is the big thing with her and they did well on that as well.
Man I don't really like Kana, but man they clowning her so hard in the anime compared to the manga.
One thing I will add is that you gotta let the series cook and be patient.
