With Spring season ending, overall this season was very very very Rom-Com & SoL heavy. Great season if you are into that and terrible if you aren't. These are the noticeable ones ranked for me Summertime Render and Ao Ashi I Still need to watch:
Spy x Family
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Ultra-Romantic
Ya Boy Kongming
Ascendence of a Bookworm S3
Tomodachi Game
Love After World Domination
- Spy x Family delivered and is as good as you will get from a SoL comedy. Not much more to add beyond Loid and Anya deliver each week with comedy.
- Kaguya S3's comedy delivered as expected. But it eventually introduced romance to the show. Easily maintains its status as the best rom-com.
- Ya boy Kongming is def the surprise of the season. Most idol anime can be a giant headache and a mess. But this show dealt with topics that are very relatable. (Depression, how do you find your passion in life, what do you do when your passion no longer brings you joy and do you sell yourself just to get fame?) Kongming def grabbed the interest early on with his ridiculous humor. Easily the best new seasonal debut of the year
- Ascendence of a Bookworm just like the previous 2 seasons delivered with great characters and worldbuilding. Altho this season had some surprisingly dark moments. But given there was only 10 episodes and with how the season ended, it is very likely this adaptation is done.
- Tomodachi Game was the one show this season where the first 3 episodes or so gave you a bad impression of the show. It did feel sluggish. But after episode 6 with the Yuichi twist, the show became really good. The show might not be for everyone since it can feel edgy at times.
- Love After World Domination unlike majority of seasonal romances, rarely nails both the romance and comedy dynamic, but it has done pretty well. Def worth a watch if you are looking for a Rom-Com
Here is the rest I watched:
- Executioner and Her Way of Life - This show took a different approach to Isekais. Namely the Mc isn't an isekai protagonist. World Building is very good, but the writing can make the plot feel predictable at times.
- Dragon Quest: Adventures of Dai - Still a fun show to watch, tho the writing took a noticeable hit.
- Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie - If you are looking for a wholesome Rom-Com this is great for you. If not it is a big skip.
- Skeleton Knight in Another World - If you like Overlord, you will probably likely this, tho Overlord prob beats it in quality. It is basically your generic fun isekai adventure. Nothing more, nothing less.
- Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs - Story and characters themselves are surprisingly interesting. But the awful animation and awful art design of the characters makes it really hard to watch at times.
- The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 - Turtle arc was complete garbage. 2nd half was ok but the writing at the end again was bad. The last episode was a fanservice recap.
If I did a top ten so far it would look like this:
Spy x Family
Kaguya-Sama S3
Ya Boy Kongming!
Demon Slayer S2
Attack on Titan
Ascendence of a Bookworm S3
Ranking of Kings
Vanitas no Carte
Tomodachi Game
Love After World Domination
