Jokes aside, I dont read/watch every Blech chapter.

Ichigo's goal is to become a Soul Reaper. He accomplishes this within the first chapters.

Did his ambition ever evolve from there? Serious inquiries only

Na..... keep them jokes up brother

His ambition reflects his origins, he was just a normal guy who was literally pulled into another world trying to save someone. Very much like Urameshi without the veneer, he becomes a Shinigami in order to protect. From there it simply expands from his friends and family to literally everyone & everything he can, entire worlds. Ichigo never stopped being a normal guy dealing with increasingly weirder shyt but all ge ever seeks out is normalcy because he was robbed of that as a child.

Kubo obviously felt the same which is why instead of becoming a Squad Captain or Royal Guard, he ends up a 27 year old writer with a PhD. All the rest want extraordinary things because that's what they were born into (Luffy, Naruto, Shinra, Deku, etc.) but that's not nor has it ever been Ichigo's bag.

It's a journey for most characters, getting the title is the end. Ichigo wanted power to protect, almost immediately gets it, and spends the series learning how to deal with it without allowing it to consume him thereby risking what he actually wanted to protect: regular boring life.

I remember when he unconsciously beat Ulquiorra in his vasto lorde form, he said something like "I didn't want to win this way".

found that comment to be weird, since he achieved his goal of protecting everyone and could not have beaten Ulquiorra on his own. It makes sense that he was concerned about losing control of himself, again, and drifting further away from that normal life he ultimately wanted.

I think Kubo could've done more to develop Ichigo as a character. I don't particularly like him. But I kinda get what Kubo wanted to do with him, not meant to have any sort of swagger or lofty ambitions as most shounen MCs do have.

Ichigo is an honorable warrior, he doesn't like that form but he had to train in that form to accomplish his goal. He doesn't fight to kill, he's fights to protect which is the ongoing theme on the manga "A fight for pride or fight to protect".

In other words no. This explanation is bland, namedropping of better characters aside. Like Ichigo's "regularness" isn't written to be endearing or played off of like Saitama ignoring monsters to shop discount groceries. Its just evidence of a protagonist that wasnt given much thought beyond the design. :manny:

Like forreal this flowery juelzing could easily apply to any fantasy protagonist "yeah he's just a cool guy who fights for his friends n stuff." What about this is unique or compelling? What about this screams "Ichigo" beyond the picture? For example

-A regular boy who idolizes a superhero and dreams of saving people like he does despite being talentless, then is suddenly given the chance to be his protege.

-A boy who looks up to the freedom of pirates because of a man who lost his arm saving his life sets out on a journey to find a legendary treasure and the title that belonged to the most powerful man in the world.

-A regular guy who has become so strong he's become a superhero out of boredom and is now having an identity crisis.

-A regular teenage punk with no value for his own life dies saving a kid & is given a second lease on life to hunt spirits and find his place in the world.

-A boy on a journey who single mindedly seeks to meet his father who is at the top of the most dangerous profession to find out what about the job was so fun that he abandoned his son.

-A boy shunned in his village because of a curse who then aims to be their leader to redeem himself.

-A martial artist from an alien race who defends the earth simply to satisfy his urge to challenge himself.

A regular guy who got a sword and now fights for his friends :mjlol:
