Hajime No Ippo is prolly the goat sports anime. It's definitely in my top 5 ever. If you're a boxing fan or ever seriously trained, the anime hits even harder.

That anime was dope..... but I love Kurosuke No Baske better

Maybe because my background was basketball.... who knows but the way they made basketball into drama and action adventure was :russ:

Akashi was cold as fukk:wow:

Hmmm I might have to rewatch it again. It's been a decade. It was a chore watching it back then lol
I feel like how likely people are to make to the halfway point depends on how much an individual likes Issac and Mirai. :yeshrug: their fukkery carried the show till Ladd started popping off.
only manga I've ever seen match it in that aspect is Holyland.

Only reason I feel the new shyt "Weak Hero" doesn't match it is Holyland (like Ippo) shows what it takes to get to those levels. shyt tons of real life training and experience.

I'll forever feel like Holyland wont get animated because of the havoc it would cause.

society don't want a million Thug Hunters :mjgrin:

Holyland is in my top 5 and the best realistic combat manga imo. Yuu's character arc felt so complete and satisfying in spit of him being an insufferable NEET. Tons of cool characters and great fights.

And yes, that manga do be dropping real life gems. They dont want to see these lil nikkas practicing blisteringly fast 1-2s then hitting the streets:shaq:

takamura vs Hawk. :mjgrin:

one of very few anime moments that made me stand up and applaud (and almost get fired from a job)

Brian Hawk is the ultimate scumbag. When he gave that speech to all of Japan i was rolling. :russ: Everytime i go to japan i think of that speech.

Glad youtube has the whole series uploaded.

:mjgrin: breh that shyt magic (after practicing 3000+ punches)

Punch one connects: :huhldup::why:

punch two connects: :deadrose::dead::deadmanny:

and that's even BEFORE they go into him grabbing nikkas collars/sleeves and pulling them off balance :whew:

and that's EARLY ON.

Holyland is a legit masterclass in non-formal self defense.... for offensive purposes :demonic:

Kurosuke No Baske is a top 5 sports anime and I loved that shyt, but I can't place it over Ippo and I love basketball too. (not as much as boxing tho)

shyt was too unrealistic. nikkas were playing ball like it was NBA Jams from back in the day. nikkas shooting lights out from anywhere on the court. Super powered passes and moves. The drama wasn't even that deep because it mostly consisted of nikkas just trying to find ways to get better. Ahiru No Sora kills it in the drama department and was way more realistic. Its just that its animation cant hang with Kurosuke or Slam Dunk.

Slam Dunk makes a better case cuz it had drama, showed the technical aspects of basketball, animation was good (not Kurosuke level, but better then Ahiru No Sora) an overall was just more balanced an realistic. Its just an older series, so some might not check it out, but its truly a masterpiece.

even then Hajime was just way more inspirational. That shyt would hit you in the feels and you'd be like :mjcry:

Akashi was my favorite character from Kurosuke tho. :ohlawd:
I loved how they broke down the zone too. That's prolly the best explanation of it that you'll ever get in team sports. They did that perfectly.

Ippo is absolutely better than Kuroko. I think only Ashyta no Joe really compares to it in sports.

But.....Kuroko did have a character that grounded the show a little in the team captain Kiyoshi. Didn't have any super powers. No pro prospects. Played through a busted knee just to give his team the best chance to win in his senior year. And his team needed every single ounce of what he had to win.

Kuroko and especially Kagami were broken. But they'd have lost without Kyoshi Divac. All the Generation of Miracle Teams had glue guys like that who were key. At least some parts of the show I'd put up there some of with Ippo's best.

All the extreme shyt to me is what made it great :russ:

If it was just boring SOL them playing Bball..... I probably would hate it

But the fukkery the dramatic over the top shyt:mjlol:

There's definitely a divide between sports anime of now and then with some exceptions. Shows now rely more on the hype around matches and getting the character to the point A->B. Older sport anime are really just a bit less oriented on the journey to the top and more to their characters personal lives.

Parents is a difference between Ippo and Kuroko. Makes the characters feel more genuine when you can see who raised them, be proud when they've found their passion in life.
