Essential What Anime are you currently watching?

Just finished Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle: Tokyo Revelation from CLAMP.

shyt was great if you're a fan of the CLAMP-verse. I mean greeeeaaaat. It covers the Acid Tokyo arc from the manga, which didn't get animated before the anime series ended.

Unfortunately you gotta have read/watched Tsubasa up to that point, plus know some Cardcaptor Sakura stuff and also be familiar with X/1999 to even know what's going on.

That's the rub with Tsubasa. It's sort of like Stephen King's Dark Tower series, in that it ties almost all of CLAMP's work together. Where it fails at, unlike Dark Tower, is that you really HAVE to have read the other stories to even have an inkling of whats going on. It's not accessible to newcomers at all.

Speaking of CLAMP, I was just checking out Blood-C the other day. It was alright a few episodes in, not sure if I wanna commit though. I wish one of these streamers had Blood+. I still need to check that out.

It's pretty good! The same created has another anime called Mawaru Penguindrum..you should check it out.

Have you watched Rose of Versailles? That's a 80s shojou anime that was too great. Idk man they don't make animes like that anymore.

At no point has BC ever reached the heights Naruto reached during it's peak.

Why is BC even mentioned as GOAT show? I thought that shyt was a bit or some kind of sarcasm when people mentioned that

Nope.

Black Clover has not reached Naruto's peak, yes, but it's still one of the best shounens ever to me. What it lacks in complex story it makes up for with emotion.

Can you name one thing Black Clover does that sets it apart from other legitimately great shonen? I can't take your suggestion of "emotion" serious because the show is filled with gimmick characters and beyond maybe having a sob story background (which isn't original in shonen) they show zero development other than coming to like Asta. None of them feel like real characters. For the most part they're static mediocre characters. Gauche is literally one of the worst characters ever.

Don't get me wrong it's an enjoyable show but it's basically a bunch of ideas better executed elsewhere all blended together. It has great pacing because it slams on the gas and seldom if ever lets up. The fights sometimes get repetitive where the bad guy gets knocked out 2-3 times before they go down finally.

I will give it this, the way they team up and integrate their powers is great. Fights rarely come down to a 1 on 1 and are usually team battles. The story is decent. The greatest weakness of the show is the characters. Almost everyone is a gimmick or gag character and 80% of their screen time is spent repeating their gimmick / gag over and over again. The show just has too many of these gag characters and that's gonna cripple it in the long run.

black clover is popping and everyone loves it. every shounen was inspired from previous anime. naruto was called a hunter x hunter ripoff back in the day.

Anybody can say that about anything. "It's just your opinion." I like a lot of stuff. Just because I like something doesn't put it into the GOAT conversation. GOAT anime are general consensus. That's the difference between personal favorite and GOAT.

Example go anywhere they rank anime and Fullmetal Alchemist will easily be a top 5 anime series of all time. One Piece is a GOAT level anime. Hunter x Hunter. There's also a tier below that that's really good anime. Naruto is in that tier. Black Clover is in the tier below Naruto. A bit better than average.

Lastly I didn't say shonen wasn't inspired by other shonen I ask what it did better? Like if you ask me what One Piece does well I can tell you the world building, characters, and epic emotional moments it has are some of the best in class.

For every One Piece there's a ton of shows like Bleach that for years had a great run but got to the late game and completely fell apart. To a lesser extend when Naruto got later in the game it started unraveling and you can tell the author was fatigued of doing it which hurt it's final standing.
