Atheism is an illogical, incoherent 'belief' system that is self-contradictory. You need to examine it in more detail.

Why do you say that?

...since when did things being a sin stop religious folks from doing anything? :stopitslime:

Interesting point. Let me ask you a question. Let's say a religious person did commit a sin. Does that reflect on the religion or on the individual? Where does the blame lie?

This is scary stuff. Essentially you're pointing to complete devaluation of life. I feel this would make one a threat to themselves and everyone around them.

Do you think suicide is a vice or a virtue? In your own opinion...

I haven't devalued life at all. This whole thing just seems like common sense to me, because atheists are known, scientifically, to be more intelligent than religious people. They know more, therefore, they think more. This leads to depression in a lot of cases. As I said in another thread, atheists recognize what the world truly is, and also recognize they're powerless to change anything in their lifetime (the most they can hope for is to be the spark that ignites a flame later). We recognize that despite our best efforts individually, the world is still going to be controlled by some perverted form of religion mixed with greed for probably centuries to come. It's a truly horrid view for an intelligent person, but that's why average people are happy with their iPhones, rims, and religion - they're not capable of putting all the pieces together to actually SEE what the world is.

As to how I view suicide - I'm like god; indifferent. It's not something I would celebrate, and it's also something I would try to talk anyone out of, but if they feel their life is really that bad, then they have the right, in my eyes, to take it. I just honestly would do everything in my power to make sure it didn't happen in my presence (I would feel guilty if I couldn't stop it). Still, it's not something to regard as an "easy way out" as I see people do so often. Just think about how much shyt a normal person would have to go through before they reached the point of actually pulling the trigger on themselves; even if we can't see the issue, THAT'S evidently the type of shyt that's been going on in that person's life (more than likely in their mental).

What is the world?

The man billed the smartest man in the world, Christopher Langan, believes in Intelligent design. Is he stupid to you?

Are you smarter than him because you dont believe in God? I mean do you really feel thats the only thing separating human beings from advanced intelligence? I think you feel to highly of yourself and perhaps need to humble yourself a bit, friend.

I guess someone wasn't taught how to think about abstract concepts.

And yes - on this issue, he is ignorant.

And again, yes - on this issue, I am more intelligent than him. Though, I must say intelligence is hard to nail down anyway given that there are many forms of it.

No, because someone being a theist doesn't mean they automatically accept that morality is objective.

They actually do. You just object to their objective morality's source.

And again, that says nothing about ATHEISM being illogical or incoherent. Just because some atheists tend to hold similar beliefs doesn't mean they are staples of non-belief.

That doesn't answer the question. How can you recognize 'evil' or 'good' if you have no rational basis for measuring what 'evil/good' is?

Ok so maybe you should reedit your previous post where you said atheists are more intelligent, or you should at least specify what type of intelligence you're talking about. Seems like the type of intelligence you're talking about is more for a pat on the back than any kind of application that can help friends.

No need to edit anything. In the first post, I actually AM referring to the general use of the word "intelligent" (meaning, on average, atheists have higher IQs than theists). In the second post, you basically asked me to compare my intelligence with someone else's on a given subject, which I did, BUT in a more specific way than generally assuming I'm smarter than him in every given area. I think most intelligent people were able to recognize the, admittedly, subtle difference.

O, but the man with the highest iq believes in God so that pretty much makes those averages meaningless.

You're emotionally conveying your biased opinion and trying to pass it off as fact. So even if you were right you're still not displaying any intelligence anyway. Whoever doesn't think like you is unintelligent? How ridiculous is that? :heh:

And I never said you devalued life, I said suicide devalues life. I then asked you if you felt it was a virtue or a vice to which you responded "I just honestly would do everything in my power to make sure it didn't happen in my presence (I would feel guilty if I couldn't stop it)." So I'm assuming this means you believe it is a vice?

"Whoever doesn't think like you is unintelligent?" - Not always, but sometimes. Also, one can be ignorant in certain areas and brilliant in others. Again, intelligence is hard to define. Yet, generally speaking, someone who believes talking pink elephants exist very likely does not have the same intelligence as an atheist. Likewise, anyone that denies climate change, relies on Ayn Rand or Paul Ryan for economic theories, and/or believes our morals came from religion is practically begging people not to take them seriously. When things like evolution are being disputed by an individual, I'm sorry, but I definitely assume said person is of lesser intelligence. Certain beliefs cannot be held by a rational, logical mind. This does not mean that there is never a time of disagreement that doesn't equate one person as the intellectual inferior/superior to another. There are areas where it is absolutely fine to have disagreements, but only when the facts are ambiguous; not when they are all but concrete in one direction only. So, people are not stupid for having different perceptions of the world, but they are ignorant, in one way or another, if the cannot allow themselves to be objective.

And I answered your suicide question already. I told you, I'm completely indifferent. I don't view it as a "vice" at all, because it's not "wicked or immoral". Yet, it's not something I would celebrate either, so it's not a "virtue". It's really just a personal choice, i guess. Nobody knows what another individual deals with mentally, so I'm not the type to judge. Still, I feel that majority of the time, those depressed feelings and thoughts will subside some (at least the severity) over time, so I'd hate for someone to kill themselves over what was just a phase.

Don't mistake your arrogance for intelligence.

And don't mistake memorizing "facts" that someone else told you for having a high intelligence quotient.

If you were truly intelligent you'd be making these discoveries on your own, not telling me about what someone else discovered and because you were informed of it, you are now "intelligent". What happens when that person is proven wrong? Will you then be "intelligent" enough to hop on the new wave?

And your answer of "indifference" is invalid especially when you go on to say it's something you wouldn't want to see and it would even make you feel guilty if you couldn't stop it. So you can type "indifferent" as many times as you want but you've already made it clear that that isn't true.

Hi-larious. :laff:

So you're telling me that you've personally verified everything you've ever been taught? That's crazy. Good for you man.

I never claimed to be intelligent. The other gentlemen did and based it on his knowledge of climate change and evolution.

That sounds more like plagiarism than intelligence.

Intelligence is about ability to learn, comprehend, reason and problem solve. How does "if you don't believe in evolution you're dumb" prove intelligence?
