One of the last real brothas alive.

Cornell West is a known Obama hater. He is a hypocritical loud mouth that does nothing but talk about "Oh how the poor are being oppressed! Why, oh why are they oppressed?!?" yet he makes $$$ from seminars and teaching classes where he barely shows up cus he's too busy making $$$ from book tours. We all know the big reason he criticizes Obama is cus he got stiffed for tickets to the first inauguration. He is the least credible source of criticism on President Obama

Come on now. You people seem to be only able to focus on the criticisms he made of the President, as if he's been nothing but negative, which points more to your own biases than to his own. His messaging on Obama hasn't really changed since before the 2008 election- it's always been critical and cautiously supportive.

And he chooses to teach at the richest school in the world.

i heard this yesterday in the car. I was very dissapointed. I get what he's doing, he says that to draw attention to the issue, but come on now.

Plus his biggest issue is that poverty wasnt brought up during the election....well....romney doesnt give a shyt about the poor, and obama was an incumbent and isnt going to draw attention to failures of course, plus he is dodging accusations of being for redistribution of wealth and socialism.

West had no reason to say blackface. That is MY problem. He easily could have said "rockefeller republican in disguise". I guess we wouldnt have made this thread then :stopitslime:

Dr. West pointing out that Obama is a "Rockefeller Republican" is not something I see as a criticism but morte as a statement of fact. The dude is a moderate Republican through and through. And he is speaking nothing but the truth aboiut the whorish nature of Sharpton, Dyson and yes even Harris-Perry.
What does annoy me is that people are so quick to put on their capes and Superman for Obama by attacking West personally instead of taking a look at what the man has written and discussing whether it is factual or not.

This is what annoys me the most. The response is always that West is a hater, or bitter, or a hypocrite of some kind because he is an "elite" academic. Basically, people say anything to avoid the actual substance of his statements and whether or not they are factual.

I also find the Blackface comment way out of line, but once again, the point is to have a nuanced view of these things. I can find that distasteful, hell, I can even see the argument about hypocrisy as understandable, but I can also take an objective look at his comparison of Obama to the Rockefeller Republicans and judge that on its own.

Cornell West has been dying for Obamas attention for 4 years now because he needs Obama attached to him to cement his own legacy, wheras Obama does'nt need him because as people have stated, he's not President of 14% of the country, he can't cater specifically to blacks.

I'm expecting him to do a few more clear cut things near the tail end of this administration to help minorities and such but this whole blackface shyt is basura and he needs to K.I.M.

LOL @ saying Sharpton and Dyson are for sale. Yeah that's true but don't act like you're not in the same market two aisles over next to the milk.

Well you know what they say...If the shoe fits...

History will prove Dr. West correct. Black america squandered their politcal capitol this election and got nothing to show for it.

i think its people who think black people should outsource the black political agenda to leftist ideologies

Outsource? Modern progressivism is a direct derivative of the Civil Rights movement. In fact, every major Black advancement made in this country since segregation has been made under the auspices of progressivism.

If you want to take the Black agenda in a new direction and divorce it from progressivism, that's fine, of course, and you have a right to that opinion, but it's serious historical revisionism to suggest that the historically, the Black agenda and progressivism can be discussed as truly separate entities. The history of Black social/political achievements is a leftist history, because most Black leaders were leftist and part of leftist movements, so painting leftism as something exterior to Black history and the historical Black agenda is simply inaccurate.
