Were Avengers Endgame and Infinity War great films? or great comic book films?

Its about the pool we’re comparing against. And comic book movies have been historically bad so its easier to compare in that realm.

But its not gonna compare to other movies.

I mean lets compare Endgame vs Heat.

Essentially they’re two heist movies right? Endgame is great but its no where near as good as Heat. Inception is essentially another heist film, but is Avengers better? I can’t say that. I love Avengers fyi and while i’ll concede that Winter Soldier is the better film Civil War is one of my favorite movies all time.

So when we start getting into the nitty gritty, you gotta start splitting hairs and the measuring stick changes.

Infinity War is a good movie, not great. Endgame is solid.

Winter Soldier is still the best MCU

Endgame just wasn't ambitious enough in spectacle and showcasing the power of the gems in the gauntlet.

The time travel concept was complete trash.

Should have been completely scrapped in favor of a move daunting task like fighting the gauntlet and using that to introduce cosmic entities.

A real let down

I start endgame at the moment thanos crashes through the portal.

I been waiting on this since I was a kid. Dud.

I think they're fun and a fantastic close to a comic book series but they aren't great films like that.


I still don't get the Infinity War hype on here. It's just a series of predictable fight scenes and you know who is going to win every time. What would possibly make it a great film?


Black Panther was a MUCH better flick than either but folk here underrate it because CGI and fight scenes....then want to claim the movie relying entirely on CGI and fight scenes is a "great film".

Black Panther and The Dark Knight are my two favorite comic book films ever and they still don't rise to the status of great films when compared to actual greats. (edit: yes, Winter Soldier is better than both Infinity War/Endgame too. So is Logan.)

Bruh I don't think we need that comparison, Heat is one of the greatest films of all time for a variety of reasons but most of all because it influenced pretty much everything we see today in the crime genre.

IW was great in general because Thanos was the protagonist and broke the rules of the MCU universe to get his wins. I don't think we get a film like Joker where the villain is the protagonist if Thanos doesn't do work in IW. I aint old enough to confirm, but its probably the closest my generation will have to a "Empire Strikes back" movie where the audience leaves the movie feeling a certain way because the bad guy wins.

Endgame is a great Superhero movie, but I don't think it is as good as IW. Its a lot more fanservice, but that is great because its a culmination of years of movies.
