Hey at the end of the day, the Eagles got a Super Bowl out of it all. Eagles had 14 years of Andy Reid, 10 years of Donovan McNabb, and while they were easily the best HC/QB tandem in franchise history with the most consistent success (at least, during the early part of that run) they never accomplished that. That Super Bowl makes it all worth it.Bittersweet Legacy is the best way to describe the Doug/Wentz era
EDIT - since everyone else is doing it, my two cents on the Wentz trade and the end of his career in Philly (now spoilered for space):
I don’t have the same level of hatred for Wentz a lot of people in this thread do. I thought (still think) he was a solid QB in 2018 and 2019, if clearly not on the same level as 2017. But he completely fell apart in 2020 and is 100% responsible for that. And if the reports that he refused to take ownership of his bad play are true, then that really doesn’t reflect well on him. I can’t make excuses for Wentz in 2020.
What also can’t be denied, however, is that the Eagles did a horrible job building around him, excepting 2017. They tried, certainly, but they missed on draft picks. They passed up on guys when they were available in Free Agency. They committed to 30-year old, past-their-prime vets. In a passing league, a QB needs pass-catchers, and the Eagles proved horribly incompetent in surrounding Wentz with weapons.
In the great debate of, “who failed who?”, Wentz and the Eagles failed each other. Wentz fell apart, reportedly refused to acknowledge it, and then forced his way out. The FO was horribly incompetent in actually investing in the QB they paid a huge extension to. It was an absolute shytshow by the end of his tenure and Wentz, the FO, and coaching staff all had a hand in it.
If nothing else, I expect Wentz to look better in Indianapolis. He’ll be going to a team with a great defense, decent, if unspectacular, WRs, and a good offensive line. He’ll have a better head coach (one he might actually listen to) and GM. And the Colts have the cap space to take a run at someone like Allen Robinson in Free Agency, if they want. Even if Wentz is still bad, Indy can carry him better than Philadelphia could.
The Eagles are still a team devoid of young talent with no clear answer at QB (Hurts isn’t it), $50 million over the cap, saddled with a GM who can’t draft. But at least they’ll have gotten Wentz’s contract off the books in 2022, have the #6 pick to take a premium player with, and will have an extra 1st/2nd in 2022. Commence the re-build. So at least both sides get something out of this.

It’s too bad that it didn’t work out with Wentz, but I’m personally kind of tired of talking about him now. He’s gone. The Eagles have the #6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, a new head coach, and a lot of veterans needing to get shipped out. They have serious questions to answer at almost every level of the team. Why not focus on those instead?
