Good thread. Dap+Rep'd

And yeah Liberia didn't go to complete shyt until the USA/West pulled what it always pulls.

You told no lies

My observation then becomes all of this is still happening under successive leadership... so the question then becomes what are the dynamics of Liberia that would cause this to continually occur.:jbhmm:

giving away the natural resources and taking on bad debt
1. Why aren't the rubber tree feilds taken from the U.S. corperation firestone with latex production and processing done & sold in/from liberia? (Then & Now)

practice a elitist idealolgy towards the indiginous groups and looked at them as "uncivilized".
2. Why does the European cultural cannon(academia, religion, media, attire, etc) carry so much pull among Liberian(African) people to the point were they denigrate their own African culture? (Then & Now)

missionaries to come in and corrupt indigenous people
3. Why do Liberian(African) people allow foreign proselytizers(religious,NGO's, etc.) to run rampant throughout the populous undermining the culture of the people? (Then & Now)

Getting the right answer depends on asking the right questions. Hopefully I asked the right questions.:francis:

1. Maybe the usa/west leans on them not to. Because the usa/west only works when resources are cheap/plentiful. Then again the leaders in Liberia might just not be thinking about doing that. :yeshrug:

For questions 2&3.. I think it happened mostly because Africans are just very welcoming. And by being so welcoming, are open to outsiders ideas. That and you also have to figure...the African way of doing things wasn't really able to beat back those outside ideas. When those outside ideas were forced upon the Africans. So there is bound to be some inferiority complex buried deep.

Just realized i had a ton of typos lol.

But yeah back in the 60s Liberia had the same GDP as Japan. Back when Nigeria and Ghana were a mess Liberia literally looked like America. Liberia sees Blacks in the west as their family which is why the "Aa vs African" narrative on this site irks me because people are literally using Nigerian and ghanians as the representatives for all of west Africa.

Look at Robert Johnson the former BET owner dude is straight like blacks need to make Liberia their Israel. There are even articles about how its insulting that blacks rather go to Ghana than Liberia to visit when Liberia is argubly the easiest place for blacks of the west to digest the culture.

This may sound like an excuse but I really feel America and the West needs to be destroyed or gotten rid of for an independent African nation to really succeed especially if African Americans are going to do it.

It does sound like a excuse:skip:

But truthfully.... that's really what would change things for the better. Because their not gonna let up fukking with us willingly..

I mean, the west/usa is built on cheap/plentiful resources. So they need Africa to stay sickly and weak. But anyone who has been paying attention has probably realized that the usa/west are past their peak.

Read Glubb's Fate of Empires when you get the chance. I really think we're in the last 20yrs where we will have to deal with this.

Liberians used to be arrogant like who ghanians and nigerians are now because back in the day Liberia was the place to change. Ever since the nation fell from its place as one of the premier nations now the other nations that have come up talk junk.
thank you!

:russ: dude getting all butt hurt about my post. I'm African American but I'm around a lot of West Africans so I hear/learn quite a bit :manny:

Yeah Liberians were like Honorary AAs in their heads yet still had their indigenous knowledge to a degree so they were striaght feeling themselves especially since Liberia was so technological adavnced.

So pretty much when Liberia was destroyed everyone else was like :umad:. Not in a hateful sense but more so in the sense that Liberians needed to be humbled. If you talk to anh liberian they will always tell you about how good Liberia used to be and literally if it wasnt for the war there was no reason to leave.

Ghana and Nigeria came up and have the numbers on their side so now they brag.

I advise everyone read up on President Tolbert. If you read between the lines you will see why everything that happened in Liberia happened. When liberia didnt stand with israel when they got into it with egypt, to their "non aligned" stance, to bringing equal access to resources and opportunities to indignenous groups, etc. Im telling yall Tolbert was going make Liberia the Black Holy Land.

I remember my cousin telling me when he was in elementary school President Tolbert had all the children in the country raising pennies to support Palestine. You think the west was going to let a truly black independent nation rise? Lol

And to your edited questions

You have to realize Liberia is literally a western creation. Prior to Liberia being created the land was just different tribes that were already there and then the tribes who came as Mali began to decline.

In all reality Liberia is a figment of western imagination. And with Americo Liberians controlling the costal areas when became the "modern" areas indignous people were forced to assimilate the same way blacks in America had to. Now you did have the tribes of the interior who stood their ground and were already fairly advance and not "savages". The issue of course with the bad deals was the greed of man. Chiefs selling stuff to fatten their pockets.

I didn't want to go that far back offf in history:francis:
:patrice:but your reminder of migration history just reminded me how I always get annoyed when people forgo the migration history of Africa to try and overlap historical points in their minds/arguments like all these entities on the map existed at the same time....

So you'll have someone talking about 3000BC Kemet ...then jo blow random comes out the wood work talking about...
"well, why don't you talk about the Ashanti or the Zulu or something instead of Egypt" - :usure:

Show me the Ashanti or Zulu in 3000BC and I'll gladly talk about them :beli:
Show me substantial data on west Africans prior to Tichitt-Walata settlment around 2000BC and I'll gladly talk about them :beli:
Show me substantial data on forest belt west Africans prior to the nok around 1000BC and I'll gladly talk about them:beli:
Show me substantial data on the Bantu migration prior to 1000BC and I'll gladly talk about them:beli:

:russ: man those people kill me, but I get ya bruh, I just tried to keep it focused on this first post :pachaha:
Thanks for the extra input.:salute:

News to me.

I've lived in many different areas in the US and never experienced this firsthand. Not saying it doesn't exist but i've just never seen it. I've been to many Liberian events, have many Liberian events too.

I mean my tribe speaks on us being in Egypt and even the "middle east" in our history. The Mali, Ghana, and songhai history is really the later "recent" history lol.

For Mande tribes we all had well documented migrations throughout Africa and the Arabian peninsula which is why blacks being the original egyptians and hebrews isnt really pesudo but more like common sense. Much of west africa was inhabited by pygmies which is why many West African tribes have folklore about mystical pygmies who inhabited the land before we got there.

I think the "dont rock with" is out of context. West Africans dont rock with Nigerians but Liberians arent in large enough numbers to have a negative stigma about them. But Liberians did use to be fairly arrogant and now Ghanians Ivorians and nigerians give us the :umad:
