This stuff with the Braves is overblown and I don't remember people freaking out like when STL didn't re-sign Pujols.

Freeman turns 33 this season and Olson turns 28 in a couple weeks. If Freeman and his agent are asking for something like 6/$180+ million, that would be an insane contract to give out. Olson might not be the same leader but the on field production is the same and he's just now hitting his prime.

People bringing up his "MVP." :mjlol:

He got that in a 60 game season. That isn't a real MVP just like the Dodgers didn't win a real World Series. :yeshrug:

Who's even left now for Freddie besides the Dodgers. He may have overplayed his hand. He may have to just go get their offer unless the Red Sox or somebody come out of the blue with a 6th year.

Freddie's MVP was as real as the Dodgers W.S. ... but that's fine.. i'm not gonna bash it.. Freddie's been one of the most consistent and reliable players out there for a long time

Freeman has been great.
Sort of the east coast Paul Goldschmidt for a while.

If the Dodgers are his only real shot, I think he's probably lost some leverage and maybe the move is to lower the money and get the extra year.
I don't really think he could afford to take a 1 year deal and try again next offseason. He'd still be the top FA next winter but at his age, I'd have to think the market could come down considerably.

Also, another reminder that pitch counts or innings counts don't really do anything to prolong or save a player's career.
Chris Sale's career high innings pitched in a season is 226.

Granted, people have written about the funkyness of Sale's mechanics over the years. But there are plenty of examples of guys getting hurt repeatedly over the years who rarely or never surpass 110-120 pitches in an outing or are limited to around 200 innings a year.
