So the Yankees are projected to win the division with 97.9 wins and people think signing Josh Donaldson was a disaster.
Obviously projections are not predictions but this will be interesting to follow.

For all the progress baseball has done in the world of analytics, the casual fan still has quite a bit to catch up to.

Hes gonna miss half the season and not get paid for it and hes shrugging like its nothing lol.....

They might have 4 Kyrie Irving on the team. Think I'm gonna put a couple bucks on the jays to win the division. City Hall better not make an exception

evidently he couldnt. MLB teams couldnt have any contact because of the lockout and i think he would have risked a void or some shyt to his contract if he went to an outside Dr for the surgery. supposedly the teams like it to be their Drs , he was pretty honest about the injury they asked when did the motorcycle accident happen and then that nikka said "which one" :pachaha:
:snoop: @ which one…stay off the bikes, ya fukk

So we're taking that as gospel now? :coffee:

These were their projections last year. :coffee:

American League East

  1. Yankees: 97-65 (81% odds to win division)
  2. Rays: 86-76 (11%)
  3. Blue Jays: 85-77 (7%)
  4. Red Sox: 80-82 (1%)
  5. Orioles: 66-96 (0%)

PECOTA sees the Yankees as being the beasts of the American League. The Bronx Bombers, with their additions of Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon to the rotation and the re-signing of DJ LeMahieu, have the best projected record of any AL team and the highest chance to win their division.

That's bad news for the defending division champs and pennant winners, the Rays, who are still set up to be playoff contenders but will have to not only deal with the Yankees but fight off a young and talented Blue Jays team that just added George Springer and Marcus Semien. The AL East is the only division in MLB projected to have three teams with 85-plus wins.

I can tell you're the type to read headlines and not the details.

There are are probability and projections courses on youtube, my friend.

:youngsabo:
Yet you used the probabilities and projections as your basis for dismissing the naysayers of the Josh Donaldson trade. :coffee:

Donaldson projects to have practically the same WOBA this season as Carlos Correa. About .361 if I recall.
It's a projection, not a prediction.

But contracts are real. And in terms of projected value, it would seem practically a no brainer that Donaldson was the better choice even if the casual, ignorant fan didn't view it as the sexy choice. Or the choice that makes the back cover of the NY Post.

If the projection doesn't pan out, at least you haven't committed yourself to a mistake for a long time.
