So the Yankees are projected to win the division with 97.9 wins and people think signing Josh Donaldson was a disaster.
Obviously projections are not predictions but this will be interesting to follow.

For all the progress baseball has done in the world of analytics, the casual fan still has quite a bit to catch up to.

Most other projections have them at 89-90 wins, tbg i dont see that roster as a 97 win team esp when you factor theyre gonna lose a bunch of games due to covid regulations...

This is an 85 win team if Covid never existed and I'd even bet the under on that too.

They will underachieve for the same reason they underachieved last year: analytics and projections are banking too much on half the roster getting their heads out of their asses and they've shown nothing to indicate that.

It doesn't help that the division is filled with players who save their best work for when they play the Yankees. Meadows, Grichuk, Bo, Lowe, every Rays opener, JD, Kike, Kirk, Teoscar, Zunino, Choi, Arozarena, even Baltimore got Mullins and Mancini.

To be fair, projections never seem to figure out Tampa well at all.

Are they trying to tank without tanking or are they hoping City Hall saves them
conspiracy theory: Yankees can just blame Covid for the third year in a row as to why things haven't gone their way.

They spent over $40 mil to bring in a guy who can fire up the clubhouse even though firing Boone woulda been every bit as effective because a new manager wouldn't tolerate the bytchassness.
