This is interesting. Can you break down how they were able to pull this off? I know Power tried doing the same thing with Ghost in season six, but by that time, it was too late and he was surrounded by far more unlikable characters.
There's people out there that can explain it far better than I can but the basic gist of it is, in the earlier seasons Tony was a lot more endearing, a lot of the shyt he got into and the beefs he had were based more on the malice of other people(His mom, Uncle Junior, Richie, etc), his crew loved him, but as the show went on he started killing off more and more of his people, he started committing more and more selfish acts, breaking rules and just doing downright despicable things until season 6B where he's just a straight up unlikable sociopath. His probably only endearing moment in season 6B is when AJ almost kills himself.
Look at the difference between how him and even Carmela argued in the earlier seasons as opposed to the later seasons

One of the theories that I believe to be true is when Melfi is reading up on sociopaths in I think the final episode and finally comes to the realization that Tony has been using her/charmed her and is a sociopath who will never get better, that it's sort of a realization that the viewer has come to after all this time
