no it still opens with the wedding. if im remembering right, the vito origin is in the middle of the book sandwiched between the present day stuff
Also, in the book Vito is absolutely aware of the abuse that Conny is experiencing. However, he believes that once she got married he couldn't really step in anymore. That's some OG Italian thing.
