The book ended on a positive note. Fredo wasn't killed and the sister eventually came around and forgot about her husband. I actually liked the book, easy to read, it also goes into alot of the other small characters that barely exist in the movie.
I need to re read them! My experience was also the same. Great book, lots of detail and easy to read. The second book was amazing too. Clemenza was a real one :banderas:

thank you

only one who posted the correct answer and the post got no daps...tragic

michael was prepared to kill fredo that very night
In my opinion I think Michael had some sort of conscious at this point in the movie.
He knew Fredo had to be killed, but he was hesitant up until this point in the movie

Young Al Pacino was a hell of an actor :whew:

Fredo left the drapes in Mike’s room open. He knew they were gonna kill him, Fredo snitched on himself when they went to that club. Either he subconsciously revealed that Johnny Ola took him there and he knew Roth, or he was just that dumb he thought Michael would forgive it. The guilt of it was eating at him, he knew he was done from the moment Johnny called him after the hit was botched.

Vito seemed to have more restrain than Michael

Vito couldn't even kill Carlo who was abusing/cheating on his daughter and involved in Sonny's death

Vito had no problem popping nikkas. It was just a last resort for him whereas with Mike it was his first instinct. With Carlo I think Vito knew his daughter would never forgive him if he had him killed, and 9 times out of 10, Sonny beating his ass would’ve been the end of it. But Carlo was a cocksucker.

I never knew any of this...I’m assuming the book is in chronological order starting with Vito’s story and then turning into part 1?
no it still opens with the wedding. if im remembering right, the vito origin is in the middle of the book sandwiched between the present day stuff

slightly off topic...but my mom had an og copy of The Godfather with the white cover and the gold puppeteer symbol, but she was told it was lost during a hurricane (she believes someone stole it)
