Quite the storyline they've got going now so a rouge group of thugs took off from Riyadh on two Gulfstreams to interrogate and murder Khashoggi to what end?
So the "leader of the free world" could say it's no big deal and what's really important is an arms deal.

It's mind blowing how this buffoon willingly goes out of his way to embrace nonsense and be made a fool of time and again.

Simplification of the modern oil market, much has changed over the past 5 years or so: US 'likely' has taken over as the world's top oil producer

Fracking has made the U.S. less dependent on imported oil than ever before, and only a relatively small share of Saudi oil gets exported to the United States. They play a significant role as a major producer with the most reserve capacity, but its oil price calculation isnt as simple as before. As fracking is capital intensive, they do better with higher prices. The more prices rise, the more lucrative fracking becomes, and the more market share they can claw away from Saudi and other traditional producers. Should oil prices rise above the $100 mark the balance the Saudis have been trying to achieve between maintaing market share and revenue will likely tip as new producers enter the market. All this to say, its not accurate to argue exceptionally high oil prices are good for them.

Breh, none of what you posted has any bearing on the current situation. Yes fracking is a danger to Saudi influence on the world market. That doesn’t mean they don’t still benefit from the higher prices. The other thing is that there is a lead time between when frackers decide the market is safe enough to re-enter and when they’re able to influence supply. A lot of the fracking operations were dismantled when prices hit rock bottom. Meanwhile Saudis are sitting on seemingly endless supply that can very easily be pumped. Lastly these guys are t operating on 10/20/50 year timelines. If it gives them breathing space for another year or 5 they’re happy.

And meanwhile the full court offensive with this bs story is currently underway. Sounds stupid and everyone knows it’s a lie but you know what? IT WILL WORK! Just like every other monumental and bald faced lie that trump and others have put forward.l, there will be a cacophony or horrified responses, editorials, statements and stories, and then eventually the press and everyone else will move on.

Yup. Sick.

Well like the rest of his life he's found there's no consequence for lying.

My post was addressing your specific claim that exceptionally high oil prices would be a simple boon to the Saudis. I already posted my thoughts on this specific situation elsewhere in this thread.

Again very high oil prices are not a simple no brainer as you suggest for the Saudis, even from the perspective of short term thinking. Frackers have recovered from the previous crash and are producing at levels similar to their previous highs around 2014. If prices were to become exceptionally high, or way above $100 this would unquestionably lead to a greater frenzy for frackers who’ve become more efficient since the last crash. This is without even considering may do to oil demand. History also shows the highest prices are followed by major crashes sooner than later, something Saudi cant afford in the midst of their attempt at economic reform. Just last week there were reports of the Saudis and Russians coming to an agreement to increase production to stabilize the oil price. All indications show their thinking ( along with Russia’s) is motivated by finding a sweet spot between revenue and price stability.

Their strategy on oil prices has little to do with whether there will be any impact from this crisis. If they are to come out of unscathed( I think this will continue to be an irritant), it won’t be because of price bluster.
