what would you consider evidence?
Forbes is citing a study(that has yet to be debunked) finding walmart saves not only its customers, but even those that dont shop there $2,500 annually. Lets just take its 200million consumers and ignore the rest.
I want to see the math showing an net economic loss caused by walmart. Taking into account any valid cost to the public you can find.

Keep in mind i'm not even saying that its a net benefit, I'm just asking to see the numbers. :manny:

You can run a company successfully while paying your employees a fair wage and treating them as human beings? But the man with a suit on tv said rich people will suffer if that happens. Are you telling me he was lying?

it can't be...can it?

Walmart is good for consumers....I don't think there's any need to debate that..

But it's costly for taxpayers and a drag on the economy as a whole.

Of course Wal-Mart's low prices benefit the consumer but at what cost? You might be getting a bargain deal on socks but look what your money is supporting.

The more money they earn, the more powerful they become. And if there's anything we've come to learn about Wal-Mart, this is NOT a company we should be entrusting with such power. They represent big business at it's absolute worst. They're like Mr. Potter from It's A Wonderful Life. Keep feeding that monster and he's going to consume everything and everyone.

We - the consumers - get to vote with our money. Unfortunately not everyone has that kind of wiggle room when it comes to spending and so Wal-Mart becomes the only option. But if you do have that wiggle room, you're better served spending your money elsewhere and supporting companies that have a positive track record. (i.e. Costco)

Or better yet, support your local businesses.

I see this counter argument a lot, but how is it relevant? I mean how does increasing employee wages change what the money is supporting?
Increasing the taxes they pay will only increase their power in washington... I'm not even sure if those against walmart understand their own position...

Are people actually advocating shutting down the planets largest private employer during a financial crisis?

When you say "
walmart becomes the only option" do you see this a bad thing? and if so would you prefer poor people did not have this option? Or do you want everyone to sell goods at walmart prices?:ld:

Because then people could rest their heads at night knowing their hard earned dollar is going in the pocket of a responsible entity and not some soulless, greedy corporation that cares nothing for us?

People got along fine before big corporations became synonymous with bargain shopping. People got along before Wal-Mart. Not only does Wal-Mart exploit low income people, they (and corporations like them) help CREATE more low income people.

Everything comes at a price, even lower price tags. Do you feel your business is valued when you shop at Wal-Mart? Do you get good service? If you had a specific question could you call Wal-Mart right now and get an answer? Does anyone in that store - or the people that own the store - give a flying fukk about you or your shopping experience?

But you already know the answer don't you? This is the same BILLION dollar company that provides it's own employees with the legal minimum.

I'm going to ignore much of the ethical part of your response since its completely subjective, and how you feel about it is how you feel. Nothing I can say will likely change that.

The very concept of a corporation is ridiculous, and yet another in a long line of horrendous govt. policies/initiatives. No argument there... but why are we not pointing the finger at govt.? :ld:

So you would be ok with where the rest of their profits went if the employees were paid more? Interesting...:ohhh:
