It definitely was…

Even my Dad said he stopped buying CDs for that reason alone.

I remember when cats were bootlegging the hell outta Boosie and Gucci. Those are the two most popular rappers that got hot off folks burning their mixtapes.

DMX was definitely putting out some garbage during the 2000s.

Grand Champ was bloated and don’t get me started on Year Of The Dog

A lot of rappers were dropping shytty ass albums with tons of skits and random non rapping azz nikkas from their crew hogging up songs. Plus the sequencing was practically non existent. How your intro go from being on the street, the second song in the club, and the 3rd song about RIP at a funeral, and the fourth song about going down south and hustling?? :heh:

CDs have much better sound quality, but a lot of newer cars don't even have CD players in them anymore SMH

Unfortunately this is true…

I don’t like those new touchscreen radios(the ones that look like a tablet) that folks be putting in their older cars. That shyt is looks tacky as hell.

I seen someone drive by in a 2003 Honda Accord with that shyt. I was like :mindblown::picard::mjtf::unimpressed:in all one setting.

Luckily they still sell those radios on crutchfield. I’m gonna ride me a Crown Vic with a Sony system with a CD player.

I’m laughing at the unintentional comedy of this post…

This is true.

This has Cam’ron written all over it

If you watched a low budget hood movie, and the first 6 minutes had that sequencing, it would be the most random shyt ever.

I knew a guy making bank in the 1990s selling subbed anime VHS tapes. Before broadband and compressed video file types you would buy a bunch of blank VHS tapes and use gold plated electrical contact "Monster" cables that copied the tape with minimal quality degradation.

There were underground groups of fansubbers who would get anime straight from Japan, add their own subs, and sell the pirated tapes for big money and other dealers made their own cut down the distribution chain.

I saw Evangelion and a bunch of other shows years before they got US distribution. Napster and Kazaa and widespread broadband killed this though.

Piracy exists in every country. Nobody became a millionaire off burning cd's/dvd's

It was a good side hustle for a few years though. Especially when internet became a bit faster and you could download all kinds of movies, video games, music and sell it to those who didn't know how to find this material yet.

Some dudes modding consoles like PS2 so you could play those burned DVD's of any PS2 game. Good times.

Never made millions but I had a run of making burned CDs and DVDs and it was definitely lucrative. Only really took orders from people was never just out but word spread quick. Didn’t match my firestick hustle but definitely really good side money and I didn’t put in maximum effort.
When I 1st moved to GA my brother was working at truck stop as a over night cashier basic ass job right. We get to the crib and he tells me to come look. This nikka lift up his mattress he got a stack of work checks. Im looking like wtf breh "I thought you was the smart muhfukka you trying to go to prison like me". I thought he was selling work and saving all his checks from the gas station lmaoooo. This muhfukka say nah "Im selling CDs". He pulled out a old school 90s cd book that could hold like 150 Cds in it of all burned CDs. This nikka started paying me to burn all the CDs for him before he would go to work at night. Now he was getting original copies from Flea markets and stuff at the time we wasnt hip to the internet as far as downloading wise. He used to sell out that whole cd case damn near every other night. Fast forward a few years we on the downloading game now and movies is booming way harder than cds. This is around the time i found SOHH. I came across message boards because of looking for cds to download to sell. I would sell cds and movies myself but majority of the time i was making all of his because that was guaranteed money everyday for me but i tell you no LIE i made more money selling cds and dvds than i did when i was fukking with work that shyt was a goldmine. In my eyes it was legal too cause nobdy wasnt busting people for selling CDs or Dvds that was a wild ass time for me i aint gone cap. My brother wasnt giving no deals either especially on DVDs cause we was having shyt before anybody cause we was downloading for ourself instead of waiting for other bootleg nikkas to sell it to us. I used to joke around all the time and say I used to make more money off of gucci mane cds than he was making his self :russ:

Yea it's pretty much all profit. They steal the content and put it on cheap CDs you buy in bulk
To your point though all of those bootleg dudes looked dusty, maybe that was by design though

The modern version of that is firestick guys I guess. Who knows how much of the server infrastructure he was involved with building out but Omi in a hellcat became a millionaire off people not knowing you can just make your own firestick yourself

Anyone remember when the little Asian ladies would pull up in the barber shop talking about "ceedee ceedee ceedee" and then they would go in that other compartment in their shoulder bag and show you the porn DVDs.
