The folks I knew wouldn’t go further than MySpace or Facebook back then Now kids can work a smart phone at 2 or 3 years old and music streaming services are cheaper than buying 2 cds a month.For a few years there was real money in selling burned movies, music and anime. People weren't internet savvy and didn't have fast connections to download, had no burners in their pc. My brother used to do it. When DBZ hit and they kept going back to the first episode people wanted to watch the next episode they were willing to pay for it.
You had irc's/usenet back then, people in the know got their content from there and passed it on the the ones who didn't know better. 95% of underground street bangers for some genres never hit any streaming service. There's still money to be made trading music using harddrives. Amapiano is a good example.you don't have Spotify or Apple Music?
