See THATS why I have no problems whatsoever when Jay-Z bigs himself up and calls himself the greatest. You keep saying something over a period of time and people are going to believe you. Jay made it his MISSION in life to name check every goddamn thing he ever achieved, hell he even has semi-successfully revamped history and made people believe that Reasonable Doubt was this all time classic when it dropped.

Nas is my estimation is the best ever. He’s also lowkey. He DOES push himself and self mythologize as all GOATS do, but he’s never too in your face about it. But see being that way also gives haters and nikkas with agendas ammo to talk slick, sideways, and outright LIE about shyt.

Fact is that Nas in 1996, had his second album debut at number 1 and spend FOUR CONSECUTIVE WEEKS at the top slot. If thats not a rapper that was “running shyt” I don’t know what is. Nas accomplished this in the year of 2pac, The Fugees, Outkast and other top rappers, not to mention Pop and Rock acts. Nas charted higher and sold A LOT more than Jay-Z in 96. Nas’s first week of I am also outsold Jay-Z’s first week of Vol 3 in 99.

But Nas very rarely brags about his album sales or how dominant he actually was AMONGST his peers during his peak. He definitely lets it be known that lyrically he’s one of the greatest, but sometimes I wish he’d hit these nikkas over the head with just how much he’s accomplished outside of Illmatic. 2Pac was a FAN of Nas. Jay-Z was/is a FAN of Nas. Biggie loved Nas. It wasn’t just because he was their lyrical contemporary. Its because he was just as successful as they were during their primes. Say what you want about Nastradamus, but how many rappers have had the juice to release TWO platinum albums in the SAME year? DMX, Nas, Pac, Future. And thats it. Not Jay, Em, 50, Drake, Kendrick, Sean, or anybody else.

True. But I think the criteria a lot of people use, including them on this video, is who was the hottest...who was running shyt for the longest, etc...Most people don't consider Nas a top top dog like that. In 96 he was, imo. Musically/career wise tho ur an idiot if Nas isnt at least in your top 10

I feel all that but this is obviously a situation where he would have inside info and know. :dead:

A lot of cats (Wack included) are applying 2021 rapper logic to some shyt from 20+ years ago. Everyone is too "cool" to praise each other now because nobody wants to be seen as a dikk rider. People didn't care about shyt like that in the 90's. There's dozens of examples of rappers or producers on some fan shyt. Neptunes bowed the first time they met RZA. Pun kissed the ring of Kool G Rap. It's not really a stretch to think CMR acted like that around Jay. Nor is it disrespectful. It seems disrespectful to Wack because his whole selling point is being super thug gangsta #1. That's literally all he brings to the table.

Fred.
This is a fact. And it’s not like they wasn’t being disrespectful about NY legends right before Just said what he said.

But even in the context it STILL didn’t make sense cause Nas had multiple years where he was in the top 5 or top 3 highest selling rappers that year. They dead tried to belittle him in this shyt when he has had a music career right on par with Jay Z’s. And is the only one out of all of them who is nominated for a Grammy in 2021 and dropped his first verse 30 years ago. They made it seem like it was asinine to list him next to Pac.

But thats what i’m saying. From 96-99 Nas was definitely a top dog.

96- An album that spent 4 weeks at number 1 and went double platinum, with an iconic single that garnered a Grammy nom

97- A group album that debuted at number 1 and went Platinum

98- starred in a movie alongside another top rapper. The soundtrack of which debuted within the top 5 and went Platinum

99- Released TWO platinum albums within the same year. I Am sold 470K first week, debuted at number 1 and went 2X Platinum. Nastradamus debuted at number 5 and went 1X Platinum within a MONTH.

This is a top dog resume. No mention of illmatic even needed.

This is the thing tho. If CMR says that they were in fan mode, cool. They can say that and it be cool.

But when somebody else bring that up inna discussion out of nowhere to big up another artist, they're practically belittling them. Especially saying "in general admission."

Just said stuff that didn't need to be said. He's too old and been around industry/street dudes too long to talk as recklessly as he did.
I’m pretty sure the only reason Just said that is cause Wack n them tried to LIE and say Juvie was bigger than Jay Z when Vol.2 dropped. That nikka the first one who started gettin loud and spittin duck tales about what Juvie was selling at the time.

Wack was going off on his usual shytting on Pac rant. That’s how Pac came up. But then he tried to give Pac his props musically and that Mouse nikka tried to disrespect Pac and everybody checked him on that. Then Van Jones was like “who the fukk better than Pac or up there wit Pac?”. nikka mentioned Nas and everybody dubbed him. nikka mentioned Biggie and everybody dubbed him. Then he mentioned Jay and nikkas agreed wit that. Imma say it like this. Everybody got disrespected at one point or another in this conversation. Pac, Biggie, Nas, and Jay. All because these goofy ass nikkas don’t know shyt about rap.

lmao nothing is an all time classic when it first drops that status is earned over time with Jay-Z has earned that with Reasonable Doubt, which has survived the test of time

it doesn't matter if you think Nas is better, I do to, it doesn't take away Jay-Z has stood the test of time and is one of the GOATs it is absurd to say anything other than that

They were mainly talking about what the NYC Hip Hop scene was like and what clubs were popping and how the atmosphere was for Hip Hop. It was a dope history lesson. I know a lot but I always like to get knowledge from those who actually had first hand experience as an adult during that era.

What Just said was some slick shyt. He just got called out on it. Think of it this way: If Baby and the rest of CMR were on that call, does Just still tell the room "Anytime we went to New Orleans they were in the front row general admission on some fan shyt"? NO! because he knows thats not the tone to use in that situation. He just didn't realize Wack fukked with Cash Money and was gonna take up for them.

The reason he said that is because Wack was coming at him first talking about Juvie was more poppin than Jay and sold more records than Jay. Which was a lie. When nikkas was tryna defend Jay they got ganged up on by nikkas prefacing sayin “Dont shyt on the south..”. But he would’ve never had to defend Jay if he didn’t say that Jay was running the game since he came out. Which was a lie also. They both goofy. But u can’t argue wit a nikka that was in the room when u wasn’t.

Nah, wasn't no misunderstanding. Wack one of them ignorant street nikkas that deliberately will wild out or get extra aggressive with a nikka just cause they got fact checked or didn't like something you said earlier. He knew exactly what Just was trying to say. I be around nikkas like Wack all day. nikkas is transparent as fukk :russ:

I can't stand nikkas like Wack.......

Gillie is like that. nikkas who just think they know everything, talk about things they're completely ignorant about and swear they're never wrong.

You can argue with the tone and intent though. Just could've said "them nikkas was in the crowd on our d1cks (pause)" and "because he was there" nobody should have an objection? A more respectful word choice could've calmed this down. "They came out and showed us support at our shows when we went to N.O." Just's intent was to minimize CM and basically relegate them to being no different that the ticket buying crowd in their own backyard with the way he framed that.
