Yeah, just finished watching it and agree with pretty much everything said here. Movie was a combination of :wow:and :mjcry:.

Chadwick really lived up to the hype and just commands every scene he is in. It's a great final performance for him to go out on, but makes you even more sad thinking about what performances he could have had in the future. He really made the character of Levee one of the most memorable I've seen in a long time in a film.

Viola killed it as well, I loved how she didn't tolerate anything and kept hitting the music execs with the :gucci::unimpressed: anytime they weren't doing things her way.

I also liked how they showed her taking care of nephew and believing in him. And when he nailed the take everyone, even Levee gave him props.

There was a real sense of community it seemed like back then. Even Cutler, who didn’t like Levee, tried to persuade Ma Rainey against firing him.

We still be killing nikkaz over scuffing our kicks :francis:

Fantastic movie though.... give alllll the posthumous roses to Chadwick :blessed:

Was thinking the same thing. The more things change the more they stay the same:wow:
Its actually deeper than that. We let disrespect from others fuel our anger/need to hurt each other.

Just like God scene earlier. Was ready to cut another breh because of some white folk from his past.

Blacks in the era and on were never taught how to handle grief, trauma, disappointment and anger. Cant hurt anyone else so you resort to hurting each other.

You could see it in Levee's eyes. He didnt mean to kil him

We know this. Most of the frustrations and mental instability of Levee are in most young black men. Levee represents the bottled up rage of the black man.

Just finished this a few minutes ago. Great movie and excellent acting on all fronts. Viola was superb, but Chadwick just went above and beyond. I knew he would and eve even still surpassed exceeded my expectations in the role. Got a bit sad after it ended, knowing this will be the last new movie I'll witness him in.:mjcry:

Chadwick and Viola both gave Oscar award winning performances. But, Chadwick gave one of the best performances i ever seen on film. He completely embodied the rage of the black man and the inability to do anything about it but turn it on another victim of white supremacy.

Great performances by Viola and Chadwick. However, the main thing that kept this film from being great is that it felt like a play. Fences felt like an actual movie which happened to come from a play. This never translated to me.

My God Chadwick was in his bag :wow:
Amazing performance. Flawless.

The entire cast did their thing but man he really showed out.

Film was great. 10/10

That scene where the nephew was down there stuttering in front of the boys and they all stopped and looked at eachother had me :russ:

That monologue Levi did going back to his history. Speechless :wow:

Not one bad thing I can say bout this movie.

I loved this movie. We all was rooting for levee to make something out of himself but at the end i realized he just like one of these hood nikkas today. Same thing different time. Young brother from a broken home raised without his pops (for good reason), only to grow up emotionally unstable. White man did him wrong all his life, continue to do so, and he knows it. But instead of putting the knive in that cacs back, took it all out over a brother accidentally stepping on his shoes and ended up sticking him instead......sounds familiar?

I agree with everything except for your point of him not meaning to kill breh. You dont take out a knife and stick someone unless you mean to do serious damage.
