Yeah, this was pure :mjcry:

Chadwick knocked it out of the park, in a film full of great performances he stood out above and beyond. Between this and his performance in Da 5 Bloods he is a shoe-in for all the awards.

At the same time Glynn Turman is looking to catch some second wind in his career. His part here and his part in Fargo are redefining his career.

And you can't deny Viola Davis. The make-up helped a lot but she disappeared into this role. It has all the power of her other performances but none of it is recognizable.

Since it's a stageplay adaptation I think many will feel the "story" is underwhelming but the dialogues (and in particular the monologues) are perfect. And of course the brilliance of how something as simple as a locked door is used to convey the position of Levee. :wow:

What a great film. Crazy how great Chadwick perfomecae was while he's sick. Viola Davis did great job in this role. Oscar ain't shyt for that for giving her leading actress role nominatie but always put her in Best Supporting Actresse role.

GOD scene just :wow:

Step my shoe scene just:mjcry:

CAC band stole black music songs.

Definitely felt “Stagey” in parts and if you’re not familiar with the play the abrupt ending will definitely catch you off guard. But man, the performances in this were amazing

Viola and Chadwick should both get best actor nods and I think Glynn Turman deserves a best supporting

Also August Wilson was a genius. The way he can convey such complex themes about race through seemingly simple dialogue and scenarios was brilliant. I’m glad Denzel is spreading more awareness about him

He's trying to get Barry Jenkins, Ryan Coogler and Ava for other adaptations. I think they will help future films feel less stagey.
