I was talking about that with my homies and co-workers at RollingStone...Rappers have a certain limitation that kanye and kendrick don't have. They usually hire some of the most incredibly talented musicians and writers that can bring more to the table than the typical beat maker can. Their most recent albums would literally introduce you to more complex musical ideas.

Their most recent albums would have been dope if it was straight hip hop but once they dipped into the ideas black musicians have helped to pioneer over the past 100 years...shyt was over.
tbh Mbdtf and TPAB deserve every bit of praise they got. I don't even know if tpab is rap, kendrick's rhythmic flows is more like rhythmic spoken word from the underground free jazz era you could hear in the early 70s. Classic stuff tbh

I remember Bowie's producer saying this and kendrick different intonations were exactly what influenced his instrumentals on Black Star

You have to understand that Kanye and TPAB filled a vacuum. Who else was making beats the way that album and Kanye did it? They cornered the market with their releases and deviated from beats of their modern rap.

As I've said their content doesn't match the level of production they're feeding us. The fan base of rap is tired of trap beats. Trap lyrics. These two gave what isn't present.

Yeah the production on TPAB it's good in rap's standards. It also was a standard production without experimentation.

There are only three artists with complete discographies that are capable of being on MJ's level: Kate Bush, Radiohead and Björk.

TPAB did not transcend a genre with classic music. TPAB has a good backing with no lyrical capabilities to advance the music backing it. His Tumblr Black Lives Matter raps can fool some, but not ones with ears.

Tetsuo & Youth >>>>>>>>

I mean it's simple math....but you gonna have a bunch of muthafukkas who don't even know music theory regurgitating Cacplex talking points and platitudes from yuppie music reviers and critics that approach Hip Hop culture like gentrifiers rather than participants.

TPAB is a dope art piece...it's not a great rap album IMO. T&Y is both....but you know, musical composition.

This is correct...

but from a musical standpoint, you can have the argument that tpab features some of the best jazz elements of the past 2 decades...easily.

And you can have the argument that mbdtf is one of the best albums ever created.

Lupe actually worked with great producers, but you can tell they didn't give a fukk about what they were doing

it's like he didn't pay them

I've always said lupe should become a battle rapper, he's a great lyricist that doesn't know how to make good music :yeshrug:

first 2 albums were dope though, far better than anything I've heard frm Eminem

And lupe himself admitted that his music isn't even half as good as kendrick. Just sayin...

He said Eminem mad him want to quit rapping.

:yeshrug:

If we are going by what the music industry standards are, then he's right...Kendrick creates a more palatable product. That musical composition that Kendrick (unless he is a musician) probably has very little to do with.

The funniest thing to me is, everyone is a musical prodigy when discussing Kendrick. :mjlol:

Usually the same ones calling 808s a classic and forward thinking. :hhh:

I was just about to make a post about Tetsuo and Youth, the perfect example of a classic album. Listening to Summer blends the right things in rap and instrumentation.

For a culture that didn't care about outsider opinions, suddenly people are constantly looking for acceptance for their favourite rappers. Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame doesn't matter for black artists, but... Kendrick/Harvard/Certified.

You know how it goes. Can't have dissenters. Let Kendrick fans explain why he's the best without them using the word masterpiece or classic and they can't.

Vince is right when, he says kanye and kendrick are the only hip hop artists who can compare to elton john and michael jackson (musically speaking) :ohhh:

Thats exactly what stevie wonder and dj quik said (except quik didn't like the life of pablo) :ehh:

Lupe is my favorite artist and even I can admit his music is underwhelming. I only listen to him for the lyrics anyways...but the music is :patrice:

He definitely doesn't have a grander and cohesive vision to his releases, specially compared to his peers.
