You want the CEO to be like "let's see - you have a degree from academic powerhouse University of Hartford, where I'm sure you took the most rigorous courses; you've struggled with alcoholism for 15 years; you've mismanaged millions of dollars... will you join my team of executives?" If you can't manage you life, your money, or your drinking, how can you even manage a coffee shop?

All that said, I hate that dude's dysfunction is on front street. Plenty of people struggle with addiction and financial ruin but get good jobs via connections and it all gets swept under the rug. I hope Vin at least own a house out in R.I. - if so, his quality of life is aight.

When people get past the first 5 years of their struggle, I don't think they mind having their business out there for people to see. They start to own their stories and new lives and feed off of it.

He seems very content. Great comeback story

Having connections >>>

LOL, I coulda got the same position Vin got by just applying on their web site.
Not without proper experience, no you couldn't. He's being fast tracked to managing his own store probably in the next year or two. I have friends who worked within their system for years before they got to that position

:mindblown: how so you blow that much money?

Sounds crazy but when you buy mulitple mansions and luxury cars and you start looking out for your family that money goes fast...IM assuming he had to go thru a chapter 11 bankruptcy protection...

What the fukk else would he do for him? And why would he be handed a managers position off the bat? And who said he's working part time?

He gave him a job and fast tracked him for a manager position. Full benefits, and a purpose in life.

Some of you are so fukking cynical

Why are you always so angry? Cotdamn you're like an old man telling us young kids to get off your lawn.

Where do you see he's been fast tracked or that he's working full time hours? Benefits on a hourly wage ain't much so that's not something I'd brag on, especially if he is part time. And like it's already been alluded too, his former BILLIONAIRE owner could've found him a cushy corporate job, maybe not in a managerial role, but maybe as a special assistant or an advisor or one of these roles they develop for former star athletes to keep them from out of the public eye when their money dries up. That could've EASILY been done, put him on a salary and keep it moving. This story is tragic, even if Vin is "ok" with it

its easy for me to sit here and say what I would and wouldn't do with that kind of bank. I would definilely have to cut a bunch of people off. If you weren't rocking with me before the bread then :camby: but even then im putting a limit to what id be doing financially for people.

that owner probably lost money on Vin, and he was an alcoholic, not taking his job seriously at the time

he really didnt owe him a damn thing, why the fukk should he have been 'salaried' and taken care of like that?

and it would make no sense for him to hand him a corporate job, that hes done absolutely nothing to earn (or be qualified for)

he set him up where he can learn the business, grow skills to become a manager, and then build from them

that is much more rewarding (and sensible) than putting him in some 'cushy' role that he has no business having

the last thing Vin seems to need (OR want) is a handout

the article CLEARLY inferred he was being fast tracked for a manager and you just made the whole 'part time' thing up outta thin air, when logic is slapping you in the face saying he has a full time gig (and yes, Starbucks provides great full time benefits)

its probably more rewarding, and will be more financially rewarding, to do it this way. More potential.

As long as Baker is clean and works hard, he will be fine.
:mjlol: Baker has the same job as my brother's classmate who dropped out senior year.
There ain't shyt rewarding about working at Starbucks :russ:

:snoop:

I meant when he moves up in the company instead of doing some data processing in a corporate office. You completely misunderstood the context clues.

edit: reading that Providence Journal article, he is training to learn how to manage a franchise. This dude will be completely fine. You cousin is probably not doing that.

He cant get a coaching position somewhere?
He could get an entry-level job at Progressive Insurance or something :why:
He's honestly making minimum wage as a middle-aged man who was in the in the NBA with a Gold Medal at the Olympics.
He could finish college, take his LSAT and get into Harvard just based off of him having been in the Olympics :snoop:
He ha to have higher aspirations than this :sadbron:
