The Most Expensive Games On GameStop's New Retro Store

1308616102911944996.jpg

What’s old is new again. Unfortunately, it’s also pricey.
GameStop launched its long-discussed retro store today, and most games are available for pretty reasonable prices. $12.99 for Metal Gear? Sure. $6.99 for Sonic the Hedgehog 2? Alright. Even $34.99 for Mega Man 2 isn’t ridiculous, considering what it’s going for over on eBay.
It doesn’t take long for old school games to start breaking the bank, though, and I wanted to know the priciest games on GameStop’s storefront.

Here’s what I found, grabbing the most expensive game for each platform GameStop offers:
NES: Mega Man 6 ($44.99)
From the United States, Canada and Japan they came. The world’s premier designers and their finest robotic warriors traveled to do battle in the First Annual Robot Tournament. On the eve of the Grand Championship, the mysterious Mr. X announced that the entire tournament was just a scheme to get his hands on the world’s most powerful robots! Mega Man must battle through 16 levels to defeat this ferocious new foe.
Genesis: TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist ($49.99)
Shredder steals the powerful Hyperstone to shrink New York City and it’s up to you to teach that treacherous troublemaker not to mess with the fearless foursome! Pick your favorite Cowabunga commando to slash through 5 lawless levels of lambasting. Four levels each have 3 intense stages and the other is packed with brand new challenges that will make you hurl your pizza lunch. Pulverize shrink-happy Shredder before he pockets our whole planet!
Nintendo 64: Conker’s Bad Fur Day ($79.99)
The day after his 21st birthday bash, Conker’s sporting the worst hangover ever, and he just can’t seem to find his way home. Prepare to stagger through randy, raunchy, raucous scenarios crammed full of bad manners, twisted humor, and graphic bodily functions. Unless you’re a fan of violence, foul language, and racy innuendo, you’d best steer clear of this one.
Dreamcast: Cannon Spike ($79.99)
Far into the future, a rogue group of terrorist robots wreak havoc on the world and it’s citizens. The Anti Robot Squad Special Forces has been created to overthrow these radical robots. With an arsenal of weapons and high-powered Motor Boots, you must lead a courageous legion of seven members through multiple levels of robotic terror, huge bosses and other evils. Prepare yourself for the ultimate in speed, strategy and firepower.
PlayStation: Tales of Destiny II / Suikoden II ($89.99)
Embark on a heroic journey to discover the truth behind an enigmatic stranger and the ominous message she brings. For years, life in the sleepy village of Rasheans was routine and peaceful - that is, until the day a spacecraft crashed in a nearby forest leaving nothing but wreckage, a mysterious girl, and a desperate warning of catastrophe. Join Reid, Farah, and other valiant heroes as they set out to discover the origin of the stranded girl and the truth behind the fate of their worlds.
Experience an epic tale of warfare, magic, friendship and betrayal.

SNES: Chrono Trigger ($89.99)
A chance encounter amid the festivities of Guardia’s Millennial Fair in Leene Square introduces the young hero, Crono, to a girl by the name of Marle. Deciding to explore the fair together, the two soon find themselves at an exhibition of the Telepod, the latest invention by Crono’s longtime friend Lucca. Marle, fearless and brimming with curiosity, volunteers to assist in a demonstration. However, an unanticipated malfunction sends her hurtling through a rift in the dimensions. Taking hold of the girl’s pendant, Crono bravely follows in pursuit. But the world into which he emerges is the one of four centuries before. Journey to the forgotten past, the distant future, and even to the very End of Time. The epic quest to save a planet’s future makes history once again.
