You doing too much.

Kendrick and Schoolboy aren't his peers. And this project is better than the last 2 releases that Vince Staples dropped... easily. He's rapping better than Chance on this album also.

:skip: @ saying "he sounded like Chance lite, but he had an identity"

:what:

What? So his identity was 'Chance-lite'

nikka you not even making fukking sense

... Yes :what: Just because you might sound like somebody else doesn't mean its not your identity. You still have a DISTINCT sound and idea people identify you with. Describe Vic Mensa's sound and brand right now in a short, succinct sentence, and you won't come up with anything solid. And this has been a known problem with him for a while now that he just doesn't have a lane to fill or a core audience to gauge.

And just cuz you're of the opinion that this album is "better" than Vince's last 2 projects doesn't mean Vince isn't ahead of Vic right now in terms of popularity and following :heh: Same goes with him "rapping" better than Chance lol

(I should also point out Vic's been getting looks for just as long as Schoolboy, so yes they are definitely peers)

Vic is on the right team.

Big Sean's debut album was all over the place too, Cole's debut album wasn't all that great either... he's only what? 23 years old. He has Hov's support, he's got access to numerous greats, he will be fine. And for a debut album, it is solid. I'm not calling it a classic, but for someone to call it trash is just some extra shyt.

I'm not saying he won't figure it out, he's just in a weird place right now and I don't think this album was a step in any right direction towards his claim to a spot in the game

Cole and Sean's debuts were admittedly weak but Cole had a considerable following at that point and the shyt sold 200k first week without a lead-in hit. Sean also sold 87k first week for his debut and had a lead-in hit single to boot. Vic would be lucky to hit these numbers, since he has neither the benefit of a large following nor a hit. And he's been getting Jay & Kanye co-signs since like 2015. Again, I'm not saying he won't figure it out, but to me he's just artistically a bit over the place while not having a commercial presence or a core fanbase.

I agree, he's going to flop commercially
:manny:

He don't have a big following, and that cancelled Beiber tour is going to hurt the breh. But I fukk with the album, maybe in future releases he'll zone in on a specific sound and go with that... another possibility is that the label doesn't really know what sound of his is best so they just have a lot to test with here.

I tried to listen to this but the singing after the first couple joints made me delete it. After all this "hype" I might need to give it another shot.

I honestly wouldn't even know Syd was on that song without it saying so in the title listing
