Mamba "snake" trademark is for Nike, Mamba "M" logo is Kobe's.

Nike can do whatever they want and keep making shoes since NBA players are still wearing them like crazy.

Either way, the estate should've re-upped for like 5 years so people had a chance to get their hands on gear and not get fleeced by resellers and hypebeasts.

Someone on the estate side either felt some kinda way about these recent release rollouts or were responsible for not letting Nike go crazy with production. But I'm sure COVID had an effect on every Nike product so it was just a perfect storm that messed things up.

Still, maybe the Kobe rumors of him leaving Nike were true but it's still hard to believe since Nike lever lets their trademarks and designs leave. We saw that with Federer, Kawhi, Kanye and those Nike designers who went to Adidas. Nike nailed all of these people to the wall and didnt let them walk away with shyt that was their intellectual property.

The Jumpman/Nike marriage is a perfect one because it's mutually beneficial and neither will never leave each other. The same can't be said for other athletes like Neymar who will take a big bag and go and Nike knows that no athlete will every surpass MJ when it comes to their impact on the company so they will let them walk. Kobe leaving was an easy pill to swallow since he wasn't an active player. I guess we will never really know what was what.

With that said, no other brand will get to produce Kobe shoes and I guess people will kinda sorta want the Mamba "M" gear but they will want the shyt they saw Kobe wear with the swoosh on it.
Neymar already left

This woman is always in the news now. Never dunked a basketball in her life.
I get that people hold Kobe as a hero but Vanessa is just another lady.

I think Vanessa Bryant is overplaying her hand, I'm not sure what her plan is but going alone on a shoe seems like a bad idea. I'm not sure if she is going to get the same meetings that Kobe was getting. One point throw out here is about shoe ownership. Nike owns all of Kobe's shoe, they aren't business partners. But, my understand is Kobe owns the "Mamba" name, so Nike can release every shoe without Mamba and still make money. Unless Vanessa Bryant already has a new deal, my question is who is going to market the new apparel, since Kobe no longer in the picture.

Nike ain’t trying to sale a Kobe shoe without his name, number, or logo.

Releasing the shoes without his branding would be extremely tacky and in poor taste. At least Kevin Garnett and Deion Sanders were alive when Nike retroed their shoes and removed their branding.

I don’t buy the excuse of availability of shoes. Let’s be real, it’s about money. She wants what Lebron got, a lifetime deal.

you say this like it's an earth-shattering revelation. of course it's about money. putting more shoes in the hands of more fans potentially creates more revenue. but it's also about combatting hypebeast culture, which limits accessibility for fans who just want to wear their favorite players' shyt.

it's also about money for nike. they're using these limited drops to send more of their audience to SNKRS, which increases their opportunity to sell product that isn't in high demand to new consumers down the line.

there are multiple other ways nike benefits from limiting output. are you going to call them out for prioritizing money?

side note: props to vanessa for standing her ground. that "shooting in the gym" bar looks more cringe-worthy every single day she fights to maintain mamba's legacy.

She had to wait 3 months just for one pair for her oldest daughter. I know that frustrated her

you're bugging. nike wouldn't dare release kobe's shoe without the blessing of his estate at any point in the near future. in this era?? lol, the fans and players would drag them up and down social media until they course-corrected.

vanessa is playing this right.

also, have you seen the way kobe ran his businesses? i imagine he left a very capable support system in place to help her navigate these decisions.

As long as those sneakers have resell value, then Nike don't give a damn.
