why blame Nike. It’s not like they planned on him to die

Kobe’s were sitting in stores before he died. Now the people have made every Kobe a grail

Oh I’m not blaming Nike. But they brought out a bunch of exclusives last year like the 8/24 jerseys that were never available and they flat out knew they were gonna keep the run limited. Why not make it a regular swingman Jersey than anyone can get?

instead the bots and hypebeasts got the gear so of course people were upset, including Vanessa. Swoosh was gonna cake off of the Kobe gear no matter what so they could’ve produced more than enough. shyt, LA alone would cop a bunch of it.

Now the estate and Nike came back to the table and any future deal stalled. But, Nike owns all the trademarks and IP so they technically can keep pumping out shoes for players in the league and the estate can link with a big player like Li-Ning that can do a ton of apparel so everyone (especially China) gets something.

But.....it obviously won’t be the gear people want. Nike has the NBA contract so we aren’t seeing any jerseys unless people are willing to splurge on Mitchell & Ness retros. Hopefully the Mamba “M” gear that comes out will be nice and well thought out.

The good Kobe's never sat the same as all other player colabs.

There was talks of Kobe breaking away and doing his own thing. Wouldn't it be easier/worse for her to just collect a cheque which would be within her right?

Hopefully they can make enough to meet demand and get rid of the reselling aspect of his sneakers/products :francis:

Makes more sense now of why Nike did the random restock of the Proto Grinch a few weeks ago.
From my understanding, that was her issue with Nike. My boy follows stuff like this much closer than I do and he was telling me Kobe had issues with the way Nike was releasing his shoes in small numbers. He wanted better availability for his shoes. Apparently he was in the process of developing his own brand.

Now there is the truth to the fact that a lot of his sneakers weren’t selling like that and instead ending up in outlet/stores on sale all the time. But you can also make that case for certain Jordan’s, Lebron’s and other athlete sneakers as well

Where they messed up at is that they didn’t increase production to meet the new demand after his death. Instead of producing more, they moved them to draws which people have been complaining about that concept for years. I’m pretty sure she was either paying attention or kept seeing people’s complaints about how they couldn’t win the draws to get his sneaker. That would make me feel a certain as well.

The issue isn’t going away and it’s only so long Nike can keep sidestepping and avoiding the question of resellers. They dodged it with the lady and her son, but this is a bigger situation they won’t have a choice but to address.

Kanye had the same complaint about small Nike releases. Why do they do that? To limit royalty payments?

Not limit royalty payments, but keep the hype and allure of a certain sneaker. According to some people who work at Nike, they seem to love the prestige of having a shoe sell out in matter of minutes/seconds.

Keep the supply low to increase the hype and want for future releases.

That makes sense, but at a minimum they can find a way to block or limit the bots. Don’t make sense.

Outdated marketing practice. Releasing product in limited quantities and missing out will hopefully persuade them to buy something else from the brand. The problem with that is now there are other options that look good.

This could have been avoided if Nike just increased production after his death to meet the new increase in demand :yeshrug:

Not a good look though for Nike if his estate is even complaining about bots and resellers.
They were too busy letting that lil cac exploit his moms Nike account and credit card giving him dibs on the exclusives to resell for clout

Nike don't care as long as the stock is being sold regardless of who buys it. As @BigMoneyGrip mentioned, they were too busy letting the high level exec's son exploited the system using his her business connections. Even then, their solution to the problem was "putting protections in place to limit bots" like that will actually solve the issue. It's amazing how they seemed to

As other people have noticed and picked up on, they're moving all of their SNKRS products towards the draw format, so it can look like they're solving the problem when it's really not. You can signup and spam from multiple accounts in a 10 minute period.

I'm glad with the fact that she was open and transparent about why she ended the deal as now, Nike can't avoid the question and issue at hand.
